This Sunday in Worship:
Stewardship Sunday - October 19, 2025
| | |
In chapter 45 of Genesis, Joseph reconnects with his brothers after years of separation and struggle since they abandoned him in the pit as a seventeen year old. Now, the entire world is engulfed in a pit of famine, but Joseph reaches out with forgiveness to lift up his family in need. On this Stewardship Sunday, we are invited to dream with our Lord about how our church family may help realize God's Kingdom in our community by doing the same. How might we work to preserve life by living into the Good News of God's steadfast-love and everlasting mercy? All are welcome to worship with us at 10:00 am in the Sanctuary or online through our weekly livestream on Youtube. And don't forget to come early and share the Peace of Christ with coffee and fellowship before worship, beginning at 9:30 in the Parlor! Hope to see you this Sunday!

"We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)
I believe God has called me to help support the mission of our ministry partner, Sleep in Heavenly Peace. This is a bed ministry whose purpose is that no child be without a bed to lay his or her head on at night. From the building of the beds, to the delivery of the beds, we are blessed to serve these families in need and to show God's love to these beloved children!
Please take the time to prayerfully consider how you can be part of this or any other ministry of our church family. If you haven't been able to help with Sleep in Heavenly Peace in the past, there are many ways to offer your gifts: gifts of labor to build the beds, gifts of time to deliver them, gifts of money to help sustain the ministry and gifts of prayer for those we serve and for the hands of those serving. Together we are making this dream to help provide beds and bedding to families in our community a reality. What a joy it is to see these children's eyes when they see their very own bed. Through our powerful and almighty God, we can do it! We can help manifest God's Kingdom, as we are called to do.
In Christ,
- Ginger Moody

Stewardship Packets have been mailed to each member of the congregation and extras are still available in the narthex as our congregation collectively dreams about how we can help realize God's Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Pledge cards and Time & Talent surveys are also available on the church website and can be returned to the church office. Thank you for prayerfully discerning how our gifts may help to lift up others out of the pit like Joseph!
| | Supporting Bed Deliveries in Sullivan County | | | | The Bed Delivery Team has been hard at work making Care Portal deliveries to set up beds alongside our mission partner, Sleep in Heavenly Peace! So much so, in fact, that extra bedding supplies are now needed for future deliveries. Please consider supporting this meaningful ministry of our church family. Donations may be placed in a bin in the parlor. And please speak with Allen Booth for more details on how you can get involved with the next delivery! | |
- Regular Twin Bed sheet sets for Children

| | Participate in the Blood Drive this Sunday! | | Don't forget that CHPC partners with Marsh Regional Blood Center this coming Sunday, October 19, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Sign up slots are still available later in the afternoon. Please contact the Church Office to schedule an appointment. Do remember that if you have provided a blood donation after August 25, you cannot participate in this event at this time. Please contact Mike Strickler with any questions. | | | Fun Times Ahead in the Pumpkin Patch! | | |
The Pumpkin Patch continues to be a source of fun and warmth this week! We have been making connections with our community and turning visitors into friends. Thank you for taking the time to serve out in the patch and share the Good News of God's Love by welcoming people to enjoy the goodness of creation on our own front lawn!
Please remember that CHPC's Pumpkin Patch is open daily from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm and that volunteer's are still needed to help make this ministry happen throughout the end of the month. Sign up sheets are located in the Narthex. Time slots are available in two hour increments and there are plenty of slots still available. This is a wonderful time to sit and meet new people or to spend time together as a family of faith. Please be sure to sign up now so that we can ensure each day is covered as we connect with our community and welcome them to the church. Thank you for your support!
| | Don't forget that the annual Trunk or Treat will be here before we know it! Please plan to come out and decorate your trunk on Saturday, October 25 from 5-6pm. Halloween candy is also being collected to support this event and may be left in the labeled baskets in the Narthex. Please let Tyler Paulsen or Ann Johnson know if you would like to decorate a trunk to share treats with the over 400 visitors we expect to swing by! | | | |
Get your paws ready for a Blessing of the Animals service that will be held on October 26! All are invited to bring your beloved animal companion out to the patch at 5:00 pm. We will have a small treat for them and will pray a blessing over our church family's sweet creatures. A drive-thru blessing will be available until 6:00 pm for those furry friends who might be anxious to get too close to other animals or all these large pumpkins. Please save the date and spread the word throughout our community. We hope to see all God's creatures in the Patch!
| | Please Return Your Shoeboxes Soon | | |
The Annual Christmas Shoebox Ministry is in full swing! If you are interested in sponsoring a shoebox for a child in need, please see the sign-up sheet in the parlor. The cost is $5.00 per box and boxes are available in the parlor. Instructions and gift suggestions are also included in your box. All you have to do is shop and return the filled box to the Narthex by Sunday, October 26, so we only have a couple weeks left to fill and return them. Please speak with Gretchen Bentley or Brenda Hutchins for more details.
| | Save the Date for The Youth Retreat | | Parents and Youth, mark your calendars for the Holston Presbytery Youth Retreat! All students in 5th thru 12th grade are invited to join us for a wonderful weekend up at Holston Camp. Registration is $70 per student for travel, housing, and food for the weekend. Pickup back at the church will be Sunday, November 16 around noon. Please contact Tyler if you have any further questions or to RSVP! The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, October 29. | | |
Children are always welcome in worship and have a special time together down front after the prayer of confession. Kiddos are invited to also enjoy “Children’s Church” downstairs during the sermon and may be picked up in the Kids Connection room after service.
CHPC Children’s Choir practices after worship this Sunday, October 19 in preparation to sing in worship on Sunday, October 26. Please contact Emily Broadhead or Carolyn Barry with any questions.
Sunday School Classes continue this Sunday after worship at 11:15 am. The Disciples class meets in room 218 and the Remnant class meets in room 221 to discuss that day's worship service and sermon. Please speak to David to learn more about how you can get involved in either class or other various discipleship opportunities.
The Youth Group will be meeting out in the Pumpkin Patch from 5:00 to 7:00 pm every Sunday for the rest of the month. We will have dinner, a bible study, and typically a fun activity or game. Please bring a lawn chair and plan on helping out in the Patch with selling pumpkins. Contact Tyler if you are interested in either joining in on this ministry or supporting it in any way! Click Here to sign up to provide a meal for the kids.
The Session has called a congregational meeting on Sunday, October 26 to: 1) to approve a slate of five Elders for the class of 2028, 2) to approve a slate of two Trustees for the Class of 2028, and 3) to approve a slate of three members to serve on the 2026 ONC.
