Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that
values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,
you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.
We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers, and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!

A Pastoral Note of Gratitude
It's been quite the month at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church! The Pumpkin Patch has come and gone; the fire alarm system has been fixed; Christmas shoe boxes have been collected; missional activities have made a difference in our community; and all the while you have continued to faithfully accept God's "call" to love others as the body of Christ.
Thank you for the many ways you have helped to make our collective ministry possible throughout this past month. Thank you for visiting and volunteering in the pumpkin patch to support our youth going to Montreat this summer; thank you for putting on a fall festival for our community; thank you for giving out candy in the rain to over 350 of God's children during the annual Trunk or Treat; thank you for staffing a volunteer fire watch to keep the Day School open; thank you for the ways you've given of your time, talent, and treasures to help those affected by Hurricane Helene; thank you for faithfully discerning what God has "called" us to give in order to pursue the collective ministry of this congregation; thank you for continuing to participate in the everyday work of the church; thank you for joyfully worshiping together as a family of faith; and thank you for being a place of prayer and peace in the midst of so much collective anxiety in our country.
In this next season of ministry at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, we hope that the pumpkins we have shared become the very prayers we desire to plant: we pray that the Lord continues to provide for all God's children on earth as it is in heaven; we pray for our nation, and for all our newly elected leaders, that they may pursue peace and make wise decisions for the welfare of all people; we pray for the region of Appalachia as we continue to recover from Hurricane Helene; we pray for our community as we continue to support those in need; we pray for our church as we continue to accept and act upon our shared "call" to minister in Christ's name; we pray for those who have been called as spiritual leaders to serve on session; we pray for our newly elected elders who prepare to step into this important role as well; we pray for your church staff as we seek to empower this congregation to live as the body of Christ; we pray for the seven members of our Youth Group headed to Banner Elk this weekend for the Holston Presbytery Youth Retreat; we pray for all the children and teachers that are apart of our Day School ministry; and we pray for our all of God's children as we anxiously anticipate the coming of the Christ child this Advent with true hope, peace, joy, and love.
May we continue to be a church family that is faithfully willing to prioritize prayer above preferences, peace above politics, and people above programs in order that we might collectively bear fruit - and even pumpkins - for the coming Kingdom of God, in which only Jesus Christ is King. Pray with me please, "Lord we believe, help our unbelief. In Christ's name we pray; amen."
Gratefully,
- David

One of the qualities that makes our Church Family so special is that God has given us a heart for mission. We care about working to meet the needs of others in various ways. A new way our Missions Committee responds to the needs of children and their families in our community is through the Care Portal in partnership with Smile Foster Closet. The Care Portal is an online network that identifies and verifies needs of children & families in several of the Kingsport City Elementary Schools and Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is happy to be one of its partners responding to those needs.
One current opportunity to help is by providing a washing machine for a 22-year-old mother of a 7-month-old that is starting over after having left an abusive relationship. She has a place to live and has managed to acquire the basics but still needs a washer and dryer. The Church already has access to a drying machine through our partnership with SMILE (left from our yard sale). If you or anyone you know has a washing machine in good working order that you would like to donate, please call the Church Office. We will take care of the delivery.
Thank you for being a church on mission,
-Your Missions Committee

And please do not forget about our ongoing commitment to loving, supporting, and providing for our neighbors through the Blessing Box. Especially as the weather continues to get colder, we must continue helping those in need through this simple yet important ministry. Collection baskets are in the Narthex and below is a suggested list of donations we are accepting.
Giving Thanks this Thanksgiving
Don't forget to save the date for our Thanksgiving Supper and Bible Study event! On November 17, we will meet in the gym to finish our study on the Sermon on the Mount with a Thanksgiving themed pot luck at 5:00 pm. So bring your bible and your favorite Thanksgiving dish to share!
CHPC and Colonial Heights Christian Church are partnering again to provide food boxes for local families in need of a meal on Thanksgiving. Please pick up an item suggestion card and cardboard box from the parlor. Filled boxes will be collected from now until Sunday, November 24 and may be dropped off at the church office throughout the week. Thank you for supporting this local mission opportunity!
Advent is Just Around the Corner
The CHPC Christmas Memorial Gifts program is for those who wish to give a memorial gift to honor or remember those special people who have been a part of our lives. You may choose to give a poinsettia that will be used to decorate the church this season or a monetary contribution to our Renovation Fund. The cost for a poinsettia is $10. All names will be printed in the bulletin on Sunday, December 22. Poinsettias may be picked up after the Christmas Eve service. Order forms are available in the narthex and should be ordered by November 24. Please make any monetary contributions by December 15.

Responding to Hurricane Helene
Our connectional church continues responding to the needs of those affected by Hurricane Helene. Your generous support of these efforts is a gift of God’s grace and love at this time when our sisters and brothers in Christ continue to rebuild after this devastating storm. We worship a God of resurrection, who can bring back life out of destruction, healing out of disaster, and hope out of despair. Thank you for your prayers, your attention to our neighbor’s needs, and your willingness to be a helper in Christ's name!
Volunteering With The United Way
Did you know the United Way maintains a website with various volunteer opportunities throughout our greater community? Click here to visit the Volunteer United website for Tennessee to see how you can get involved. Filter to newest first and scan for Hurricane needs that are scattered among other needs from local orgs. Below are a few opportunities our Mission Committee think could be a good fit for our CHPC folks:

Volunteering at the Bristol Motor Speedway
One specific way you can serve locally is by volunteering at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS). The BMS relief center feeds supplies to the Multi-Agency Resource Centers that are in each of the affected counties. You can learn more about being a helping hand in the warehouse for a three hour shift here. Thanks to the generosity of the Tri-Cities Community, their needs list has also been updated to name monetary donations as their other needed resource. Their Facebook page is also a great resource to follow to learn more about how you can plug in to help.
The Flowers in the sanctuary are given to the Glory of God in loving memory of Gilly Bland given by Mark and Karen Bland.
The Children's Choir sings in worship this coming Sunday, November 10. Parents - please bring your little ones early at 9:15 am to practice. Regularly weekly practice will resume next week, November 17, after worship in the choir room. All children ages 3-11 are welcome to come, sing, and play! Please contact either Emily Broadhead or Carolyn Barry with any questions.
Sunday School Classes continue this Sunday after worship at 11:15 am. The Disciples Class meets in room 218 to discuss a lesson from the Wired Word, and the Remnant Class meets in room 221 to discuss the scripture from that morning’s service. Contact David to learn more about either class or to get involved in other Christian Discipleship opportunities.
The Youth Group enjoys a weekend away at Holston Camp and Retreat Center for their annual Presbytery Retreat November 8-10. Regular Bible study resumes on Sunday, November 24.
The Women's Ministry hosts a Christmas Celebration on Sunday, December 15 at 2:00 pm in the gym complete with a White Elephant gift exchange! Please bring a gift that is used, created, or new (10 dollars or less) to share. Additionally, let's add to the holiday cheer by bringing a favorite finger food or dessert to share. This gathering's missional support is for the Blessing Box and all are encouraged to bring an item to stock the box for those in need. Speak with Teresa Stickler or Romana Wise to learn more.
The Midweek Bible Study continues each Wednesday from 3-4:00 pm in the Parlor. All are welcome to enjoy this lively discussion about the upcoming lectionary readings used on Sunday mornings. Contact Lisa Pecorini if you would like to participate or know more!
CHPC hosts a special prayer gathering each Wednesday evening in the church parlor at 6:30 pm. This weekly experience meets for a 30 minute intentional time of communal prayer and contemplation. All are welcome to come by and drop in as we turn to the Lord and listen for the movement of God’s Holy Spirit.
Thank you for prayerfully considering how God has "Called" us to minister as a church family in the upcoming year. Additional stewardship packets are available in the Narthex and any financial questions may be addressed to Sarah Johnson in the office.
All items for the weekly online newsletter should be emailed to Mary at office@chpres.org by noon on Wednesday.
