Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that
values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,
you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.
We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers, and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!

Thanks for Giving Thanks!
This Thanksgiving at CHPC, we gave thanks for all that we have by turning around and giving to others in Christ's name! Back in August, our church had a wonderful opportunity to spend an afternoon packing food in partnership with Rise Against Hunger. This week we learned that all of the nutritional meals we packaged are currently on their way to support food insecure people in the West African country of Sierra Leone. Thanks again to all those who helped volunteer with us in the fight to end hunger!
Earlier this month, we started off by celebrating the turkey season early with our own Thanksgiving themed Pot Luck during our fall Bible Study. Thank you to the over sixty people who came and to everyone who shared one of their favorite Thanksgiving dishes. It truly was a delicious feast for which we all gave thanks!
And a special thanks for everyone who brought a Thanksgiving box to donate to families in need! Because of this ministry partnership with Colonial Heights Christian Church, 52 people in our community will be able to enjoy a bountiful meal of their own this Thanksgiving!
Truly this season has taught us that it is infinitely more blessed to give than to receive. Thank you for your many blessings and may you be blessed in return.

Accompany us this Advent!
The Season of Advent begins this coming Sunday and we would love it if you planned on taking full advent-age of it!! Several special services are scheduled in the coming weeks and we would love for you to worship with us. May this next month bring hope in our collective hearts as we anxiously await the coming of our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.
The prophetic passage of Isaiah 9:2-7 guides our worship during the season of Advent. All are welcome to read the short book, "Names for the Messiah" by Walter Brueggemann, and to participate in small group discussions about each of the four chapters. Books are available in the Narthex for $10. Current discussion groups include: the Disciples Sunday school class, the Remnant Sunday school class, the Monday Women's Bible study, the Youth Group, and the Congregational Bible study on Wednesday afternoons. Please speak with David if you would like to find a small group or Sunday School class to read along with.

Angel Tree for SMILE Foster Closet
and our CHPC Teachers!
| |
CHPC partners with SMILE Foster Closet for our annual Angel Tree Program to support foster children in the Washington County community. If you would like to participate, please choose an angel from the tree and return any donations for the child of your choice by Thursday, December 5 at noon. Gifts for these foster children are to be brought unwrapped, placed in a gift bag, and returned back under the tree with the angel tag placed with the gift. Instructions sheets are also under the tree. Thank you for supporting this annual missional tradition of our church family!
| |
This year we are also endeavoring to support the active teachers of our congregation by placing their classrooms on the Angel Tree as well! So if you are a teacher and would love to receive a gift to help support the children of your classroom, please fill out a paper ornament with your name and the age group that you teach, and sign up on the list. For those who would like to choose a teacher from the Angel Tree, please return teacher angels by Sunday, December 8.

Presbytery Response to Hurricane Helene
With winter approaching and the holidays on the horizon, your help is needed now more than ever! For those affected by Hurricane Helene, the cold months ahead will provide new challenges as they work to rebuild their homes, communities, and lives. Volunteer support is crucial for Northeast TN to recover and there are still so many opportunities to serve. Consider taking a shift over the Thanksgiving holiday to help spread a little cheer and a lot of love to those in need.
Thank you for all the ways you have and continue to serve as the Body of Christ to care for our neighbors in need. Below are a few opportunities for you to consider supporting:
-
Bristol Motor Speedway continues to operate the Northeast TN Disaster Relief Center. Volunteers are needed daily to help in the warehouse for a variety of needs, including special packing days for Thanksgiving, Winter Weather Gear, and more. To find out more and sign up for a shift click here.
-
Appalachian Service Project needs volunteers to help with home repairs, muck-outs, rebuilds, and more. For those not interested in construction, they also need help with office tasks such as sorting envelopes, answering phones, data entry, and other administrative tasks. For more information and to sign up click here.
-
Cherry Grove Baptist Church in Jonesborough needs volunteers to continue sorting and distributing donations. For more information and to sign up for a shift, click here.
-
Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in Carter County needs skilled laborers to hang and finish drywall, as well help with Hurricane Helene roof repairs. Volunteers must have their own transportation and wear appropriate PPE. For more information and to sign up for a shift, click here.
While these are a few of this week's most pressing needs, there are still hundreds of shifts available with dozens of agencies on Volunteer United.
Please visit www.volunteer-united.org to sign up for a shift (or two). Remember, you can also volunteer as a team with friends, family, co-workers or church groups! Simply create an account, then enter the email address of those you want to volunteer with. They will receive an email prompting them to create an account if they don't already have one. For help creating an account, visit www.volunteer-united.org/portal/landing
If you have any questions or need help, email volunteer@uwaykpt.org or call 423.251.4563 Thanks again for being part of Volunteer United!

Sunday School Classes continue this Sunday after worship at 11:15 am. Contact David to learn more about either class or to get involved in other Christian Discipleship opportunities.
The Children's Choir practices this Sunday after worship in the choir room. All children ages 3-11 are welcome to come, sing, and play! Please contact either Emily Broadhead or Carolyn Barry with any questions.

CHPC's Annual Congregational Christmas Celebration will be after worship on Sunday, December 8. All are welcome to enjoy a nice lasagna lunch and are asked to bring a sweet dish to share. Stick around for fun and games afterwards before two groups head out into the community to Christmas Carol at 1:30 pm that afternoon.
Thank you to all who ordered poinsettias as part of the CHPC Christmas Memorial Gifts program. All names will be printed in the bulletin on Sunday, December 22 and any poinsettias may be picked up after the Christmas Eve service. Monetary contributions may still be offered through December 15 and will go to support the church's renovation fund.
It’s not too late to return the annual Time & Talent survey to share how God is calling you to serve in the new year. Additional surveys are in the Narthex. Thank you for your willingness to volunteer and support the ministry of this church family!
Thank you for prayerfully considering how God has "Called" us to minister as a church family in the upcoming year. Additional stewardship packets are available in the Narthex and any financial questions may be addressed to Sarah Johnson in the office.
