Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that

values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,

you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.

We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers,

and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!

We have an exciting weekend in store!

It's a big fun weekend at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church! Things kick off on Saturday with a special children's Christmas event. Kiddos three and up are welcome to come party with us from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm while their adults have a few hours to get some errands run or get chores done. Parents - Contact Tyler or David ASAP to sign up to ensure we have enough volunteers.

Then the fun continues after worship on Sunday as the congregation gathers for its annual Christmas Celebration! Be sure to head to the gym to enjoy a lunch by our friends on the Congregational Family Life Committee. Members are asked to please bring a sweet dish to share on a pot luck dessert table.

And finally, the fun wraps up with a special outing to see some homebound members to spread some Christmas cheer by singing loud for all to hear! All are welcome to join the caravan heading out at 12:30 pm to make a joyful noise and bring a smile to a friend's face by singing a familiar tune. Contact David if you do not wish to be left behind on Sunday afternoon!

This Sunday in Worship: December 7, 2025

Second Sunday of Advent

The season of Advent is all about preparing ourselves to welcome a child who illuminates hope, brings about peace, exclaims great joy, and embodies the love of God. Those four words: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love are represented by the four candles on the outside of our Advent Wreath. Last week we focused on the first candle of Hope and how we are to respond to the Good News that God's Kingdom has come. This week we look to the second candle of Peace and wonder how this light illuminates our own path so that we might live to walk in Christ's footsteps. What does it mean to proclaim peace in both word and deed in spite of the fear, anger, and shame we too often encounter? How might the communion table be a place for Christ's Body to practice the peace of God that is beyond all understanding? All are welcome to come and light another candle while we wait for the coming of Emmanuel - God with us.

Sunday's Scripture:

Matthew 3:1-12, NRSV

Matthew 11:2-11, NRSV

Sermon Title:

"Prepare the Way of Peace"

Help Usher Peace In With Worship

December is here and while this next month may be a bit more cheery, it can also be chaotic. During this time of year, many feel lots of different emotions even though most of the world tells us we should only feel one. Throughout the season of Advent, grief can be just as abundant as holiday cheer. And so, in the midst of this busy holiday season, all are invited to worship with us at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church for a special evening service of peace, comfort, & solitude. Come pray with us this coming Wednesday, December 10 at 6:00 pm as we gather around Christ's Table where all are welcome!

Christmas Eve is Just Around the Corner

Please save this date for this year's Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church! We hope you and your loved ones will join us for this annual tradition as we celebrate the birth of Christ in our midst. Please invite your family and friends by sharing our facebook event here.

Christmas Eve Missional Opportunity

This year on Christmas Eve, the Missions Ministry Team will be accepting donations for our ministry partner Sleep in Heavenly Peace. We are proud to help them support children in our community who do not have a place to lay their head like our Lord and Savior long ago. We will accept new sets of twin sheets (normal size) and new pillows. Additionally, continued food donations for CHPC's Blessing Box are also appreciated for those who wish to ensure no one goes hungry in our neighborhood either. Please place any donations under the Chrismon Tree in the sanctuary. Thank you for your willingness to help shine the light of hope in our own community!

Would You Like A New CHPC Shirt?

New Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church swag will soon be on the way! The Youth Group worked hard to put together the design that will be on the back of each garment. When reflecting on their church family, these four words--compassionatecharitableuplifting, and accepting--were the thoughts they had about their congregation!

Short-sleeve shirts will be $25, youth shirt sizes $20, and sweatshirts will be $35. These will be available to order from our online partner soon, but please begin to let the church office know if you already have planned what you'd like to order. The deadline to sign up for one of these shirts will be Tuesday, December 9th. Any monies raised will go to support the youth ministry as they remind us all of how God looks at each beloved child of God.

Congregational News

Thanks to everyone who participated with our annual Angel Tree program last week! Your generosity ensured that six foster children were able to receive a basketful of presents this Christmas season and additional gifts for even more! Special thanks to this year's captains, Homer Marcum. Katherine Randolph, Gloria Stanford, Brenda Clark, Karen Bennett, and Victoria Begue. The Missions committee greatly appreciates all the ways this church family shares the light of God's hope, peace, joy and love to those in our community!

Do you or your family have a Christmas Card or holiday photo to share? The church will be decorating our office bulletin board with photos to welcome visitors this Advent season. Please drop by a card or photo by the church so we can pin your smiling face on the board to show the warmth of this wonderful church family :)

All children are welcome in worship this coming Sunday and have a special time together down front after the prayer of confession. Kiddos are welcome to enjoy “Children’s Church” downstairs during the sermon and will return to the sanctuary to receive communion.

CHPC's Children's Choir practices briefly after worship in the Sanctuary before the congregational lunch. Costume fittings for the upcoming Children's pageant will happen at the same time in the parlor.

Sunday School Classes resume next Sunday, December 14 after worship at 11:15 am. The Disciples class meets in room 218 and the Remnant class meets in room 221 to discuss that day's worship service and sermon. Please speak to David to learn more about how you can get involved in either class or other various discipleship opportunities.

The Youth Group continues its weekly bible study this Sunday, December 7 at 5:00 pm in the Youth Center. If you are interested in either joining in on this ministry or supporting it in another way, please contact Tyler. One very important way you can help is to Click Here to sign up to provide a meal! Thank you for feeding this wonderful group of God's beloved children!

The Women's Ministry hosts a Christmas Celebration on Sunday, December 14 at 2:00 pm in the Youth Center complete with a White Elephant gift exchange! Please bring a gift that is used, created, or new (10 dollars or less) to share. Additionally, let's add to the holiday cheer by bringing a favorite finger food or dessert to share. Speak with Gretchen Bentley or Karen Dale to learn more.

On Sunday, December 21, come and enjoy our Lessons and Carols worship at 10:00 am with joyful music including the Children's Christmas Pageant! Please note, adults and children will practice together in the Sanctuary on Saturday, December 20 at 10:00 am to rehearse.

Thank you to all who ordered poinsettias as part of the CHPC Christmas Memorial Gifts program. All names will be printed in the bulletin on Sunday, December 21 and any poinsettias may be picked up after the Christmas Eve service. Monetary contributions may still be offered through December 15 and will go to support the church's renovation fund.

Condolences are offered to the family of Jonathan Hutchins who passed away on November 21. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held in the sanctuary on Monday, December 22 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends during a visitation at the church starting at 9:30 am. Please keep Brenda, Jon, Emily, Whitney, Dan, their granddaughters, and his step-mother Jackie in your prayers over the days ahead.

Save the date for the New Year’s Eve celebration at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, December 3 as we travel together across the pond to ring in the new year!

It’s not too late to return the annual Time & Talent survey to share how God is calling you to serve in the new year. Additional surveys are in the church office or on the church website here. Thank you for your willingness to volunteer and support the ministry of this church family!
