This Sunday in Worship:
First Sunday In Lent + February 22, 2026
| | It's been said that all good things must come to an end. Well, all are welcome to worship with us this Sunday at CHPC as our winter adventure through C.S. Lewis's "Chronicles of Narnia" comes to an end with the final book, "The Last Battle." The power of love is present throughout this story as it shines a bright light through even the darkest of times. How might we see that same divine light in our own life of faith, as we come down the mountain with the transfigured Jesus and immediately enter the shadowy wilderness of Lent? The Apostle Paul writes, "For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face." Join us this Sunday as we open our eyes and our hearts to see the light of our soon to be risen Lord that shines throughout this season of reflection, repentance, and renewal. | | | | |
Sunday's Scripture:
Matthew 17:1-13, NRSV
1 Corinthians 13:1-13, NRSV
Sermon Title:
"Further Up and Further In"

| | Come Sunday Night For The First Lenten Supper! | | |
A new season of Lenten Suppers returns this Sunday, February 22! All are welcome to join us over the next four weeks in the gym at 5:00 pm to share a meal and study God's Word. We live into this Lenten season by looking to the Psalms of Holy Week as we collectively prepare ourselves to walk with Christ towards the Cross. Children, youth, and adults enjoy their own special discussions after supper at 5:30 pm and wrap up by 6:30 pm. Our first meal this coming Sunday will be a pot luck supper, so please be thinking about what item you'd like to share with your church family! Spread the word and please invite your friends to attend, because there is always more room around Christ's Table!

The Session met for two meetings this month on Sunday, February 15 and Monday, February 16. The called meeting was a joint gathering with the Campus Improvement Committee to review drafts of future facility plans. The Session extends its gratitude to the entire committee for their hard work over the past year! The Session's stated meeting on Monday opened with prayer and a devotion about church communication addressing the question, "What are you looking for?". Minutes were approved and committee reports were received. Anne Webb introduced Lisa Robinette to the Session and gave an update on the church's day school ministry. The Session is most grateful for all those who help to make this ministry happen day in and day out! Approval was given to collect the annual PC(USA) special offerings and to host the garage sale in March. Additionally, CHPC has agreed to host a visiting youth choir on June 8. Elders Mark Bland and Jason Fletcher were voted upon to serve on the standing 2026 Nominating Committee as representatives from the Session. The next stated Session meeting will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 5:30 pm in room 221.
In Christ,
Cari Parker (Clerk of Session, Pro Temp) & David Randolph (Moderator)
| | Spending Time With The Youth This Spring | | |
The days are getting longer, the weather is slowly but surely warming up, and winter is beginning to release its ice cold grip upon the world. Before we know it, spring will be here!! And for the CHPC Youth Group, the spring semester is already in full swing! As we begin this season of Lent, where we anticipate the coming of Easter, we have plenty of activities and opportunities for us to enjoy on our schedule. We hope that as we engage in this vital and vibrant ministry, that our church as a whole will keep us in your minds, hearts, and prayers.
And don't forget that there are many ways to participate in this ministry as well. If you would like to sign up to feed us during a Sunday gathering, click here. We could always use more Sunday night Youth Volunteers. If you have any questions about how you can help support this ministry and our young people, please reach out to Tyler.
| | Speaking of new activities, CHPC's Youth Group will be celebrating the season of Lent with a mid-week gathering starting this Wednesday, February 25. We'll meet from 6:00 to 7:00 pm downstairs in the Youth Center for snacks, meaningful discussions about all that Lent has to offer us spiritually, and even a bit of fun too! Can't wait to see our youth there! | | Sign Up For The Annual Faith Build This April! | | |
CHPC participates in the 2026 Habitat For Humanity Faith Build to help Articia and her three children build a new home. The build site is located at 129 W Wanola Ave. in Kingsport. There are several ways you can support Habitat - with prayers, financial gifts, or service! We are raising a total of $5,000 to support this project and appreciate your generous support. Projects include: Siding prep, Siding installation, Soffit, clean up, lunch preparation, and as always some electrical work!
Volunteers need to sign up online via the habitat website. After completing the Volunteer Profile (and clicking the button to confirm you have read our Release & Waiver of Liability), volunteers will be directed to a list of available dates. Please scroll to: D. Week 4 which is reserved for our church family and put in "chpc" for the dates of April 14, 15, 17, and 18 to become available. Signing up online provides Habitat a seamless way to communicate with volunteers and send daily reminders about the schedule. If you need assistance with registration, you may contact Terri Marcum at 423-444-9667 or Mandy Penz, Volunteer Manager, at 423-239-7689, ext. 801.
Please speak with Terri Marcum, Sharon Pugh, or any of "The Regulars" to learn more. Remember we need 8 volunteers each day for the build on April 14, 15, 17, and 18. Thanks for your support turning this house into a home!

| | Would You Like A New CHPC Shirt or Sweatshirt? | | |
This first round of the new Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church swag is almost sold out! The Youth Group worked hard last year to put together the design that reflects their view of our church family: compassionate, charitable, uplifting, and accepting. It's amazing to hear this from our youth and we hope everyone feels this way about our wonderful congregation!
The next batch of swag will be ordered soon so please place your order with Tyler Paulsen ASAP. Short-sleeve shirts will be $25, youth shirt sizes $20, and sweatshirts will be $35. Any monies raised will go to support the youth ministry as they remind us all of how God looks at each beloved child of God.
| | Condolences are offered to the family of Millie Pruett who passed away on Saturday, February 14. A committal service will be held on Friday, March 13. Please keep her son Paul, and all their family in your prayers for the days ahead as we give thanks for Millie's life. | | |
Special thanks is offered for the generosity of Scout Troop 48 for their recent continuous campfire food drive. We are grateful for their dedicated service to ensure help is available to those in need. Just look at all this food ready to go out to the Blessing Box! Please speak with Brenda Clark or another member of the Missions Committee if you have questions about the blessing box or how to supported this needed ministry in our community.
