Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that

values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,

you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.

We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers, and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!

Thank You for Supporting the Holston

Habitat for Humanity 2025 Faith Build!

Our hearts are full of gratitude as we give thanks for all the volunteers who have offered their time, talents, and treasures to help build this year's Habitat house for Matt and his family. Special thanks to Habitat Board Member Larry Johnson and his merry band of helpers for all they have done throughout the build and not just during CHPC's week. Our group gave a strong effort which allowed the Faith Build to remain ahead of schedule and gave the Habitat Electrical Team a head start on the electrical rough-in. Additionally we are grateful for the good food and fellowship of volunteers like Doris Fields and Elaine Lawson who kept the team fed with filling lunches each day. On top of these efforts, we are excited to announce Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church raised over $6,000 dollars to financially support this ministry! It is amazing to see the generous spirit of this congregation that pours out in so many wonderful ways!

The work continues throughout the next few weeks, so please continue to pray for everyone who works to help make this house a home. If you want to see more pictures from our week of building, follow this link to the Holston Habitat for Humanity Facebook page here! Thank you for your continued support of this meaningful ministry.

This Sunday in Worship: March 16, 2025

Second Sunday of Lent

In the same way Jesus turns his face towards Jerusalem, so we turn our hearts and minds to God during the forty days of Lent. Throughout this season, our church family walks with Christ through the Gospel of Luke with a sermon series about the parables Jesus told. Last Sunday we learned from the story of the Good Samaritan about how we are: 1) to notice those in need, 2) be filled with compassion, and 3) do something about it. This week, we turn to two passages from Luke 13 about withering fig tree and King Herod's rule over Judea. What lesson do we have to learn from this lesser known story? Let us continue to learn from our Lord as we walk with Christ towards the cross.

Sunday's Scripture:

Luke 13:1-9, NRSV

Luke 13:31-35, NRSV

Sermon Title:

"Listen and Finish My Work"

Lenten Suppers Start This Sunday Night!

Our Pop Up Suppers & Bible Study Series for the Lenten Season kicks off this Sunday night! Our time together will begin with fellowship and sharing a meal in the gym at 5:00 pm. The meal will be provided this week, but be sure to note that March 23 and April 6 are pot lucks, so bring your favorite dish to share with our church family! Children will then split off to enjoy a time of music, a lesson, and some fun while the adults and youth have their own bible study from 5:30-6:30 pm. This year, we will be studying the story of Joshua as the Israelites enter into the Promised Land. Our first passages will be Joshua 1 and Deuteronomy 31 if anyone wishes to read ahead. See you Sunday night!

It's Not Too Late to Sign Up for Ping Pong!

CHPC will host a March Madness Ping-Pong Tournament throughout the season of Lent! The bracket will be revealed on Sunday in worship but it is not too late to sign up! A few slots are still available for anyone interested in both the singles or doubles league. You will have a week to schedule and play your game with your opponent. First round games will begin on March 16 and need to be completed by Sunday, March 23. Speak with Tyler or David to learn more and sign up.

Yoga Is Off To A Great Start!

Don't forget about CHPC's new spiritual discipline as we exercise our hearts, minds, and souls each Saturday during Lent with the practice of Yoga! All are welcome to participate in this class offered at 2:00 pm at Vidya Yoga & Fitness in downtown Kingsport. This sixty minute instructor-lead, "warm" class will be paired with positive music and scripture readings to help participants lean into the reflective side of Lent. Speak with David or Tony to learn more and sign up today!

Sign Up For Our Blood Drive!

CHPC partners with Marsh Regional Blood Center to sponsor a Blood Drive in the Church Parking on Sunday, April 13 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Appointment slots are still available for the Drive and can be scheduled by speaking with Mary in the church office. Please be aware that you are not able to participate in this drive if you have already given blood between February 16 and April 13. Contact Mike Strickler if you have any questions.

CHPC Church Wide Retreat

Don't forget about CHPC's upcoming Churchwide Retreat at Holston Camp and Retreat Center! Members of the congregation head to Banner Elk, North Carolina for the weekend of May 2-4. Much fellowship and fun will be had and there are plenty of spaces available for family and friends to join as well! The Wednesday Afternoon Bible Study continues each week at 3:00 pm in the parlor. All are welcome to participate in this lively discussion of upcoming scripture passages from the Revised Common Lectionary. Please contact Lisa Pecorini if you would like to participate.

The CHPC Easter Memorial Gifts program is for those who wish to give a memorial gift to honor or remember those special people who have been a part of our life. You may choose to give an Easter Lily that will be used to decorate the church or a monetary contribution to our Renovation Fund. Lilies are $12 and forms are available on the information table in the narthex. Any monetary contributions to the Renovation Fund should be given by Monday, March 31.

CHPC's Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held at 9:00 am on Easter Sunday, April 20. This will include treat bags for the kids and finger foods for the entire church. Help is needed to make this tradition possible. The Congregation is encouraged to bring both sweet and savory items to share so we have a great balance for everyone to enjoy! Coffee and donuts will also be provided. Please sign up to bring your favorite Easter Snack in the Narthex. We appreciate your help in making this an egg-cellent time for all!

The Women's Ministry heads to Montreat later this year for the annual Women's Connection Conference from August 8-10. The cost is $247.00 and our friends at First Presbyterian Church Kingsport graciously allow us to stay free with them for the weekend. You must register online (do so as a commuter, we do not need rooms) and then please let Lisa Pecorini know that you have registered to go. Learn more about this great event here from Montreat's website and register here. It's going to be a wonderful weekend of fellowship and worship!
