This Weekend in Worship: Churchwide Retreat
Fourth Sunday of Easter + May 3, 2026
| | |
For the past few weeks, a couple of questions have been written for reflection on the whiteboard in the narthex:
"Where do you see the light of God's love?"
"How would you share the Bread of Life?"
"How will you go about God's work while carrying your fear and doubt?"
"Where will you see Jesus next?"
This week, we add: "What seeds do we plant that God grows?"
The Apostle Paul writes to the church in Corinth, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth… For we are God’s servants, working together; you are God’s field, God’s building.” (1 Cor 3:6-7, & 9)
God has been and continues to be at work in the life of this church family, and for the next six weeks, Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church will turn to familiar scriptures like this to remind ourselves of all the good God keeps doing in this special place. We are God's field. This church is God's building. We are God's people and the Good Lord leads us to sow seeds that grow with the Holy Spirit's help into gifts of God's love. What seeds of "Compassion, Charity, Upliftment, and Acceptance" are we being asked to plant right now? How does CHPC faithfully live into these four values as a church family? All are welcome to worship with us this week as we wonder what new seeds God is preparing for us to plant.
And to kick off this new sermon series, we are delighted to welcome our friend the Rev. Dr. Meredith Loftis, Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, back into the pulpit this Sunday! Meredith's family has been a part of CHPC for many years and we are delighted to welcome one of our own back home. Please be sure to speak with her after service and be sure to tell her grandmother, Mary Ann Smith, how glad we are that Meredith could join us!

| | | The Churchwide Retreat Is Finally Here! | | As part of our church family heads off to Banner Elk, North Carolina this afternoon, we ask that the entire congregation turns to the Lord in prayer. May this weekend be a life-giving time of fun, fellowship, and sabbath rest for those in North Carolina, just as we pray that all our friends who remain in Colonial Heights may feel the same peace of God that surpasses all understanding as you prepare to make a joyful noise in worship on Sunday morning. No matter where we might physically be, we trust that God is at work revealing all the ways CHPC is "Compassionate, Charitable, Uplifting, and Accepting." How might we continue to practice these virtues as a family of faith in the coming weeks? We'll see y'all on the live-stream and can't wait to wave right back to you! | | Thanks For Supporting Cents-Ability! | | Get Ready For Wacky Wonderful Wednesdays! | | |

Save the date for another "A Good Death" workshop from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 16. This "Resurrection Edition" will be similar to the event last November and include multiple speakers from various disciplines. The conversations will cover topics of theology, funerals, grief, hospice care, medical directives, estate planning, and more. The greatest goal of the day is to demystify the subject of death in a way that allows us to approach it with grace and love instead of fear. Please speak with David to learn more and to RSVP for this educational event. Family and friends are most welcome, so please spread the word to those who might be interested in joining us for this important conversation.
Are you interested in joining Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church? Are you already a member but desire to know more about how to get involved? Please speak with Pastor David if you are interested in learning more about what membership means and if you are interested in participating in the shared ministry of our church family.
