Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that

values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,

you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.

We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers,

and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!

This Sunday in Worship:

May 25, 2025 - Sixth Sunday of Easter

This coming Sunday morning in worship will be Youth Sunday at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church! We are so grateful to this great group of young people for being willing to lead us in worship on this special Sunday. This is a faithful and talented group who have worked hard over the past few weeks to ensure that this service is a blessing to all who attend, so please show your support for this meaningful ministry. Also, stop into the Parlor after the service to speak with members of the youth group after worship to tell them how proud of them we all are!

Additionally, please note that part of this coming Sunday's service will include taking a congregational photo. It will be like a church family selfie, and it won't be the same without you in it, so we hope you can plan to attend in person! Thank you for your willingness to ensure our community can see all the beautiful and bright smiling faces of our church family!

Sunday's Scripture:

Luke 24: 36-53, NRSV

Senior Reflections:

Hannah Smith, Maria Moody-Moskala, & LillyBeth Crawford

Graduation at Colonial Heights

Presbyterian Day School!

And so another year at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Day School comes to a close. This week we celebrated our end of the year program and preschool graduation with the theme "All God's Creatures". We listened to the three and four year olds sing "Old MacDonald" and "All God's Creatures", and might have shed a tear or two for our preschool graduates as they prepare to head to Kindergarten in the fall.

I continue to be so proud of this day school and ministry of our church as a parent and also as a member of the congregation. Our day school director, Lisa Robinette, and her staff work day in and day out to provide a safe and loving environment for around 75 children in our community. As important as high quality child care is for every community, I appreciate that our church family continues to make supporting the day school a priority. Thank you for the ways you support our day school: by serving on the board, by helping care for our facilities that the children and staff use each day, by volunteering in the kitchen or taking the time to read to the children. Please continue to pray for this important ministry and all the children and families we serve in Christ's name.

With gratitude,

Katherine Randolph

Recognizing All 2025 Graduates!

Do you have a 2025 graduate within your family the church can celebrate? Please share their information and a picture with Tyler or David by Tuesday, May 27 to be included in next week's newsletter. All graduates from day school to grad school and anywhere in-between are welcome!

The Garage Sale Starts Next Week!

Our Garage Sale is finally upon us! Don't forget that starting this Saturday, May 24 you may drop off all donations into the church gym. We'll be accepting any and all of your gently used items from the 24th until Thursday, 29th. Be sure that everything you bring to donate is of decent or good quality. And please remember, no shoes, clothes, or broken items.

Not only are we asking for your donations, but please don't forget to sign up to volunteer during the event itself! We need all the help we can get to sort donations and prepare for the sale. There is a sign up sheet in the Narthex. For more information, any further questions, or to volunteer, please reach out to Doris Fields!

Ministry Highlight: Audio & Live Stream Team

All through May, CHPC is giving a special shout-out to specific ministries within the church and thanking the hardworking volunteers who help make it all happen. These selfless individuals are often active in the background, but make such a significant contribution to the greater work that is happening within the life of our church family. This week we honor our friends who diligently serve on Sunday mornings back in the balcony in the sound booth!

Our Audio and Live Stream Team is plugged in and wired up! This talented group of staff and volunteers could not be further in the background on Sunday mornings, but their work is absolutely essential to the good work God is doing at CHPC. These are the crucial helpers who not only work to improve the worship experience in the sanctuary itself, but they are also hard at work helping to minister to our friends in the community who worship alongside us every Sunday online. Did you know between 15 to 20 people worship with us live each week? What a joy it is for us to be able to share our worship service with them! Join us in celebrating this crew's hard work and thanking them this week!

Would you be interested in learning how to run the sound board or operate the live stream system? Please reach out to Allen Booth, Elizabeth Shaw, or David Randolph to learn more. All it takes is a little curiosity and a willing spirit to learn how to serve in this important way.

Congregational News

CHPC celebrates the birth of Boone Lee Hutchins, son of Callie and Eric Hutchins, and grandson to Ginger and Chad Moody on May 5, 2025. All are doing well, especially with big sister Laney taking good care of everyone. Please continue praying for the Hutchins family as they spend this important time getting better acquainted with one another!

Children are always welcome in worship and have a special time together down front after the prayer of confession. All children may enjoy “Children’s Church” downstairs during the sermon and will come back up to the sanctuary to participate in the congregational photo at the end of worship.

Sunday School Classes meet after worship at 11:15 am. The Disciples Class meets in room 218 and the Remnant Class meets in room 221. Please speak with David to learn more about how you can participate in these lively discussions or any other faith formation opportunities.

The Youth Group will continue our dinner and bible study gatherings this Sunday, May 25 from 5-6:30 pm. Please contact Tyler if you or someone you know would like to get involved in this meaningful ministry.

The Church Office will be closed on Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day. Regular office hours will resume Tuesday, May 27.

The Wednesday Afternoon Bible Study returns each Wednesday at 3:00 pm in the parlor. Weekly conversation focus on the Revised Common Lectionary Texts for the week. Please contact Lisa Pecorini if you would like to know more or join in on those gatherings.

The Spirit keeps moving after worship on Pentecost Sunday, June 8, with a congregational lunch after worship. All are welcome to enjoy this catered meal by our friends on CFL as we break bread together after celebrating communion at Christ’s table. Home Communion will also be offered later that afternoon by our Elders. Please contact David if you, or someone you know, would like to receive the sacrament on Pentecost.

All items for the weekly online newsletter should be emailed to Mary at office@chpres.org by the end of the day on Tuesdays.
