Last week, CHPC began celebrating all of our graduates with a special end of the year program and preschool graduation for the day school. The theme "under the sea" and the kiddos sang wonderful songs that showed off some of the impressive things they learned throughout the school year. This church family continues to be so proud of this most meaningful ministry! Our day school director, Lisa Robinette, and her staff work day in and day out to provide a safe and loving environment for around 75 children in our community. As important as high quality child care is for every community, we appreciate the many ways this congregation supports this missional effort by: serving on the day school board, running sound for special events, helping care for our facilities that the children and staff use each day, volunteering in the kitchen, or taking the time to read to the children. Please continue to pray for all these children, their families, the CHPDS staff, and all those who work hard to ensure every beloved child knows God loves them.

This coming Sunday is Youth Sunday at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church! We are so grateful to this great group of young people for being willing to lead us in worship on this Spirit-filled Sunday. They have worked hard over the past few weeks to prepare a Pentecost service that speaks to the "Uplifting" nature of this church family. Come support all of our youth on this special Sunday and hear from our high school seniors how they have felt uplifted by this family of faith. And please stop into the Parlor after the service to speak with members of the youth group after worship to tell them how proud of them we all are!

Your Session met on Monday, May 18 for our regularly stated meeting. Reverend Randolph led a devotional and prayer about the value of clear communication while speaking the truth in love. Regular business included the approval of baptism and communion for upcoming services, updates to the personnel policy, fundraising contributions for Montreat, and hosting the annual pumpkin patch ministry in October.

The Session welcomed the Rev. Dr. Brian Wyatt, chair of the Holston Presbytery Committee on Ministry, who advised the Session on how best to faithfully navigate a pastoral transition. Your Session remains hopeful for the future God is leading this church family into, and we look forward to discerning how the Holy Spirit is at work during this time of change. A key partner during this journey will be an Interim Pastor and the Session unanimously approved starting the process to begin this search. The first step is the creation of a "Mission Study" team to update important congregational information to aid in process. More information about these efforts will be shared in the weeks ahead. In the meantime, your Session continues to give thanks for the elders, staff members, and volunteers who have stepped up to serve during this first phase of the transition. The congregation is welcome to reach out to any member of the "Transition Team" (Emily Hutchins, Cari Parker, and Karen Bennett) with questions or concerns.

The Rev. Collin Adams has been named acting Moderator of the Session starting on June 1 and will meet with us at the next stated meeting on Monday, June 15 at 5:30 pm in room 221.

For five years, David Randolph has faithfully led our congregation with compassion, kindness, humility, patience and love. In those five years, he rejoiced with us, wept with us, grew with us, and empowered us to do the work of the Kingdom. For this, and for so much more, our church family will forever be grateful. As we prepare to say our goodbyes, your Session invites you to join us in honoring David with a love offering, that, at his request, will be given to the Legacy of Faith Fund. This invested fund was created in 2025 for the long term benefit of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. CHPC invites all our children and their friends to join us this summer during our Wacky & Wonderful Wednesdays!!! This will be a weekly summer program for children that will run every Wednesday throughout the month of June. This summer series of events are open to all children from the age of four through rising fifth graders. These are totally free events that will include a meal, games, crafts, music, and faith-based lessons. Drop off is at 5:30 pm and pick up is at 8:00 pm.

Our theme for the month of June will be to learn more about What Every Living Thing Needs! We are going to talk about how we all need the basics: like air, water, and food. But we are also going to talk about our other needs: such as community, kindness, and compassion. And how we as Christ followers should play a role in showing and sharing these needs with those around us. Our aim this summer as a church is to teach children about these needs by showing and sharing them every week on Wednesday nights in June!

We are delighted to welcome Gregory, Kimberly, and Oliver Wellman into the life of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church! Please speak with Wellman's next time you see them and get to know this wonderful family better!

We also give thanks to God for the gift of celebrating Liam and Reed Burger's baptism this last Sunday in worship. It was so special to be able to celebrate the gift of God's grace with these sweet boys and their amazing mama Blakely, as we collectively reaffirmed our own faith in a loving God who walks with us all through whatever ups and downs life may bring. Please make sure to speak with Blakely, or any other member of the Crawford/Bentley family, as we continue to celebrate the Good News of God's love.

Condolences are offered to the family of Jim Fischer who passed away on Monday, May 11. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held in the sanctuary on Saturday, May 23 at 12:00 pm with a visitation beforehand from 10:00 am to 11:45 am. Following the service, the family will remain in the sanctuary to welcome friends and share memories and stories celebrating Jim’s life. Please keep Sue, David, Misty, Marcie, Ben, Steven, Brooke, and all their grandchildren in your prayers over the days ahead.

The Flowers in the Sanctuary are given to the Glory of God in honor of Jim Fischer by Mary Ellington.

Home Communion will be offered to any members or friends of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church on Pentecost Sunday, May 24. Please contact David if you, or someone you know, would like to receive the sacrament.

All children are welcome in worship this week and have a special time together down front during the Baptism. Kiddos are welcome to enjoy “Children's Church” downstairs during the sermon and will return to the Sanctuary to celebrate communion with the congregation.

The Children's Choir will help lead part of worship this week. Contact Jean Fletcher or Laura Wicker for additional details. Parents please note - the choir will enjoy a summer break after this Sunday and return in August.

CHPC's "Kids Club" continues after worship in the Children's Connection Room while their adults participate in Sunday School until noon. Please speak with Tyler if your child plans to attend and keep spreading the word about this wonderful church activity for our kiddos!

Adult Sunday School Classes combine into one class with David about the Sermon on the Mount after worship at 11:15 am in room 218. All are welcome to this intergenerational discussion about the greatest sermon of all time. Please speak with David to learn more about this class or how you can get further involved in various adult discipleship opportunities in the future.

The Youth Group meets this Sunday night for Bible study from 5:00 to 6:30pm in the youth center. Come and enjoy dinner, fellowship, and study as we celebrate our graduating high school seniors. Don't forget, the youth group also gathers on May 27 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm for one more Wednesday night evening of fellowship and fun!

The Church Office will be closed on Monday, May 25, in honor of Memorial Day and will reopen during regular business hours on Tuesday, May 26.

Mark your calendars for a congregational lunch after worship on Sunday, May 31. All are welcome to join us down in the gym as we break bread together as a family of faith and give thanks to God for the past five years of partnership with David and the Randolph Family.
