This Sunday in Worship:
June 8, 2025 - Pentecost Sunday
| | On Pentecost Sunday, the Church celebrates the gift of God's Holy Spirit that rests upon each of us like a tongue of fire. By the Spirit's bright light, we begin to understand the powerful words of Scripture, the meaningful ways we are called to live together in Christian community, and the important mission we are invited to participate in as the Body of Christ. These fires of Pentecost burn brightly in our lives and lead us to love in sacrificial ways like our Lord. What Good News have you received that the Spirit of God is now calling you to begin "ACTing Out?" Let us learn together by listening for the movement of God's Spirit still hovering over the waters of this world. | |
Sunday's Scripture:
Acts 2:1-21, NRSV
Sermon Title:
"ACTing Out:
Filled with the Holy Spirit"

Join us this Sunday as our church family gathers for a congregational lunch after worship. All are welcome to enjoy this delicious meal prepared by our friends on the CFL committee, which we will enjoy after celebrating communion in worship around Christ's table.
Don't forget that as part of our Pentecost celebrations, Home Communion will also be offered later that afternoon by our Elders. Please contact David if you, or someone you know, would like to receive the sacrament on Pentecost.

  | CHPC is excited to participate in the annual Pentecost Offering of the PC(USA). This special offering unites us in a church-wide effort to support young people and inspire them to share their faith, ideas, and unique gifts with the church and the world. This year our church family will use our portion of this offering to support our youth heading to the Montreat Youth Conference. You can learn more about this meaningful special offering by visiting the Presbyterian Special Offerings website here and may give online here. | | Summer Support for The Blessing Box | |
Summer is here, school is done, and your Missions Committee is looking ahead for new opportunities to help feed our community! With schools out of session, we are aware that many children in our area struggle with food insecurities that were previously alleviated by free school meals. With that in mind, please help us meet this need during our "Drive By Giving at the Blessing Box". Stop by anytime, 24/7 or if it better suits you, drop off donations in the basket located in the Narthex.
Specifically, please keep an eye out for small travel toiletries or amenities, like the ones you may receive from a hotel stay. We could use those, along with individually wrapped bars of soap and a few rolls of toilet paper, to ensure our neighbors in need have a few human necessities during the Summer. Please continue to pray for this ministry and for all those who offer or receive from it. Thank you so much from the Mission Committee for generously supporting the Blessing Box both with physical and monetary donations, like Cents-ability! If you would like the expired food list emailed to you, if you have any questions, or want to know more ways you can support this important ministry, contact Brenda Clark.

CHPC is a proud sponsor of Holston Camp and the wonderful ministry they offer year round in Banner Elk, NC. We love visiting each year for our churchwide retreat and we are grateful to serve alongside their staff whenever possible. Just a few weeks ago, members of the congregation spent time updating the lighting fixtures around camp to LEDs to make things brighter and more efficient. See above for some great pics of that trip.
And this weekend, Pastor David heads home to Holston to serve as Camp Pastor for next week's campers. Be sure to keep him and all of the kids traveling for summer camp in your prayers. Pray for safety, pray for our campo's staff, and pray for God to be active in the lives of those young people. May God continue to bless the good work happening in the mountains of Western North Carolina!
| | Since 1955, Holston Camp and Retreat Center has offered youth from our area and abroad the opportunity to seek God while building nurturing relationships and having fun outdoors. It’s a time to make new friends, learn new activities and skills, and simply enjoy God’s creation. CHPC is proud to partner in ministry with Holston Camp. Please consider learning more and making space in your summer for a fun time at camp! You can register for Summer Camp by visiting their website here. | | | Our Bed Build is Coming Up! | |
Join us on Saturday, June 21 for another Bed Build! We are so excited to partner again with the wonderful ministry Sleep In Heavenly Peace. From 8:30 until the work is done (around noon) we will be measuring, cutting, drilling, staining, sanding, and branding in the church parking lot and under the pavilion. These bed building events are always great fun, with a little bit of work, but more importantly great fellowship!
If you can't help that morning, there are more opportunities to support this wonderful ministry. On Friday evening at 6 pm June 20th, we need a willing group to meet at Lowe's to pick up and haul all of the wood. Also, we need a group willing to take the finished bed parts to the warehouse on Saturday afternoon after the build earlier that morning. There are three sign up sheets in the narthex. So please be sure to save the date and sign up to serve!

A huge "Thank You" to all who volunteered this past week during CHPC’s Garage Sale! It's amazing to see how God works through this ministry and how we are strengthened by serving together. With your help, we raised $10,000 dollars to support keeping the kitchen "decent and in order". Thank you for helping to support the ministry of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Day School & Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church!
Children are always welcome in worship and have a special time together down front after the prayer of confession. All children may enjoy “Children’s Church” downstairs during the sermon and will return to the sanctuary to receive communion with their church family.
The Youth Group will meet for dinner and bible study this Sunday from 5-6:30 pm. Please contact Tyler if you or someone you know would like to get involved in this meaningful ministry.
The Chancel Choir takes a sabbath breath this coming Wednesday night, June 11, and returns to practice on June 18 at 7:15 pm in the Sanctuary. Interested in making a joyful noise with new friends? Contact Emily Broadhead to see how you can participate. All voices are welcome!
Sunday School Classes resume after worship on June 15 at 11:15 am. The Disciples Class meets in room 218 and the Remnant Class meets in room 221. Please speak with David to learn more about how you can participate in these lively discussions.
All items for the weekly online newsletter should be emailed to Mary at office@chpres.org by the end of the day on Tuesdays.
