This Sunday in Worship:

July 13, 2025 - Fifth Sunday After Pentecost

Last week, we walked with the Deacon Philip down a desert road and witnessed the Good News that even a powerful, privileged, God-fearing, enslaved Ethiopian Eunuch is welcome in the Body of Christ. This man was empowered by the Spirit to be an evangelist of inclusion called to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth. This week, we travel a different road towards Damascus with a man many thought was beyond all hope but Christ knew was called to proclaim the coming of the Kingdom of God. What scales will Christ remove from our eyes like Saul’s in order to help transform us into Apostles like Paul? Let us listen and learn from the Spirit of God as we continue to be transformed by God’s grace.

Sunday's Scripture:

Acts 9:1-9, NRSV

Acts 9:10-22, NRSV

Sermon Title: "ACTing Out:

Transformed by Grace"

A Prayer for Those Effected by Flooding in Texas

Our hearts break at the devastation this past weekend in Kerr County, Texas and beyond due to the flooding of the Guadalupe River, which rose 26 feet in just 45 minutes. Over 120 adults and children have been reported to have lost their lives, with over 150 more who are still missing. The Presbyterian Church, USA is a connectional church body, and we look forward to supporting the needs of our neighbors in the coming months, just as others from afar have responded to the needs of those in our neck of the woods after Hurricane Helene.

For right now, we ask that our church family take this time to unite our hearts together in prayer with friends from Mission Presbytery who serves in this area. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer:

Good and Gracious God, we come before you with humble hearts, overwhelmed by the catastrophic floods in parts of our Mission Presbytery and beyond. We thank you for the lives saved in the midst of this devastation. We grieve with those who have lost their loved ones. Comfort and console them, O God! We pray for those who have lost their homes, businesses, and cherished belongings. Hear our prayers, O Lord!

As the community prepares to rebuild, we pray for strength and resilience.

Grant us all a generous heart, so that we may rally the resources needed to rebuild our flooded communities. We trust in your faithfulness, dear God, even in the midst of devastation. Bless all who work for relief and restoration. And may your peace, which passes understanding, guard the hearts and minds of those who suffer. May our response reflect your love for all people and all creation, and thus bring honor and glory to your holy name. We pray all these in the name of Jesus Christ, our Risen Lord! Amen!

Celebrating the Work of Sleep in Heavenly Peace

This past Sunday was the 500th delivery of a bed for a child in Sullivan County with our friends from Sleep in Heavenly Peace. It was a milestone six years in the making and went two incredibly sweet little girls who now have a safe and cozy place to sleep at night. Thank you for supporting this meaningful ministry. This seemingly small act of kindness can make a significant difference in the life of each child and we look forward to partnering with them in whatever way we can to ensure no child sleeps on the floor in our community. Learn more about SIHP here on their website or Facebook page. Please speak with Allen Booth if you would like to volunteer to help build beds, deliver and assemble them in homes, craft quilts or get involved in this important mission.

Showing Christ's Love Through The Care Portal

The "Care Portal" is a new community communication tool that helps churches like CHPC address individual’s need throughout our surrounding area. Many of these requests are initiated by school guidance counselors or social workers to help families with children who have various needs. Click here to see for yourself the impact the church can make through this connected ministry. A training event has been scheduled after worship on Sunday, July 20. Lunch will be included. This training will help us prepare to minister to those in need as well as coordinate logistical efforts to ensure this important work is completed in a decent and orderly manner. Please sign up by contacting the church office or by speaking with Allen Booth.
