Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that

values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,

you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.

We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers,

and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!

Mark Your Calendars for Rally Day

It is hard to believe, but summer is nearing its end, and with it, many in our church family are preparing for the return of the school year. Instead of lamenting the end of break, let's reclaim this turning of the seasons and look forward with joy and hope upon the new school year! And let's do so by inviting God to be by our side as we embark upon the educational adventures of our students and teachers.

This year, we are placing special emphasis upon the virtue of curiosity. It is important in school, in church, at home, at play, and in life. Curious questions help us learn and investigate mysteries. We are meant to be life-long learners and to continually seek deeper understanding of the world around us. Jesus himself was curious and asked questions in the midst of his teaching. Could you image what kind of questions he might ask us right now?

With this in mind, we invite you to join us on Sunday, August 4 in worship for our annual Rally Day service! We will be kicking off the fall semester for our teachers and students by participating in a blessing of their backpacks. And we will be giving out backpack tags as a small gift. All students and teachers of any age are invited to attend. And if you aren't either of those, come with a heart full of support for our students and teachers as they embark on a new academic year. Please spread the word and we can't wait to see you there!

This Sunday in Worship: July 21, 2024

Ninth Sunday After Pentecost

Our Summer Sermon Series concludes this week with a confession. It's been a difficult road to walk with Jesus throughout Galilee, and yet Christ has been guiding us every step of the way. We've learned from his teachings, grown from his example, and benefited from witnessing the Glory of the Kingdom of God at work in him. This week we acknowledge with Peter who confesses on our collective behalf who our rabbi, teacher, and friend is: Jesus is the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of God! What does that mean for us some two thousand years later who continue to journey with Jesus through places like Galilee and beyond? Let's find out together as we look for Christ at work in our own lives but also the collective life of the church, the body of Christ.

Sunday's Scripture:

Psalm 116:1-9, NRSV

Mark 8:27-38, NRSV

Sermon Title:

"Who do you say that I am?"

Get Ready For CHPC's Garage Sale!

Volunteers are needed to ensure this event runs smoothly. Opportunities are available to serve throughout the week as individuals drop off donations and especially to help staff the sale on August 2 and 3. Many hands will make light work. Sign up sheets will be in the narthex or you may call the church office. Please speak with Doris Fields if you have any questions or concerns regarding the upcoming sale. Thank you for your support!

A Musical Note of Thanksgiving

As you know, our dear friend Carolyn Barry will be retiring at the end of the month. We are so grateful for her ministry among us over these past three years, and for all she has done to enrich the musical ministry of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. To show our appreciation, we will be collecting monies for a “Love Offering“ for Carolyn. Anyone who wishes to make a monetary contribution for her may do so by mailing or delivering a check to Sarah in the church office by Wednesday, August 7. All checks should be made payable to Carolyn Barry.

We wish Carolyn all the best as she returns to the choir loft as a member of our church family and thank her for the past three years of faithful, dedicated service. All are welcome to worship with us on Sunday, August 11 as we express our gratitude and celebrate Carolyn in worship with some wonderful music.
