Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that
values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,
you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.

We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!

CHPC's Garage Sale Starts Tomorrow!

Get ready, because the gym is filled to the brim with gently used items collected for others to enjoy! The sale starts bright and early at 7am to 5pm on Friday, August 2, and from 7am to 3pm on Saturday, August 3. All individuals should please use the double doors behind the building, near the playground to enter the gym. Remember that the money raised will support replacing the dishwasher in the kitchen used by both the church and the day school.

Many hands make light work and volunteers are still needed to ensure this event runs smoothly. Please contact Doris Fields or Karen Dale if you are able to help! Thank you for supporting the shared ministry of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church and Colonial Heights Presbyterian Day School!

This Sunday in Worship: August 4, 2024

Eleventh Sunday After Pentecost

CHPC kicks off a new sermon series on Rally Day about Jesus being called that Bread of Life and how that revelation impacts our understanding of the Sacrament of Communion. For the next four weeks, we will study the sixth chapter of John's Gospel to learn more about how Christ nourishes us at God's Table and how we might care for others at our own. It all begins with a familiar story of Jesus feeding the five thousand. Come and see how Christ abundantly provides for all God's Children with leftovers to spare!

Parents - Please note that our children will be staying in the sanctuary throughout the entire service to worship alongside the congregation :)

Come share the Peace of Christ with coffee and fellowship before worship, beginning at 9:30 in the Parlor! All are welcome; hope to see you there!

Sunday's Scripture (NRSV):

Psalm 145:10-15, NRSV

John 6:1-15, NRSV

Homily Title:

"Broken For You"

Enjoy Some Fun in the Sun

During the August Splash Down!

Don't forget about CHPC's annual August Splash Down on Friday, August 9, from 6:30-8:30pm at the Kingsport Aquatic Center! All are welcome and please invite friends! This year we will also be collecting new pillows and sets of twin sheets (standard, no extra long please) to support the ministry of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. It's the perfect way for the entire congregation to celebrate the end of the first week of school!

A Musical Note of Thanksgiving

Our dear friend Carolyn Barry retires at the end of the month and we are so grateful for her ministry among us over these past three years to further enrich the musical ministry of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. To show our appreciation, we will be collecting monies for a “Love Offering“ for Carolyn. Anyone who wishes to make a monetary contribution for her may do so by mailing or delivering a check to Sarah in the church office by Wednesday, August 7. All checks should be made payable to Carolyn Barry.

We wish Carolyn all the best as she returns to the choir loft as a member of our church family and thank her for the past three years of faithful, dedicated service. All are welcome to worship with us on Sunday, August 11 as we express our gratitude and celebrate Carolyn with some wonderful music.

Help the Youth Group Kick off our Fall Semester!

On Rally Day, we anticipate with excitement all the opportunities a new school year can bring. One such opportunity is the chance to serve others! As our students begin their new semester, our church family has an opportunity to support our youth by providing meals for youth gatherings. Please follow the link below to see the youth dinner schedule and sign up. Or if you would simply like to contribute to cover meal, please contact Tyler. Thanks so much for supporting our fantastic youth group!

Rise Against Hunger

All are invited to join us on Sunday, August 25 for our Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Event! After a short service at 10am in the sanctuary, we will go down to the gym and work together to package meals to help those in need. We will pour in rice and other food items, seal the bags, pack them in boxes, and load them onto a truck. Our challenge is to pack 16,750 meals in two hours. Come and help us be the hands and feet of Jesus to the world!

The Spirit continues to move each Wednesday evening at CHPC with a special time for prayer at 6:30pm. One way CHPC supports UKirk ETSU is by volunteering to feed students at one of their weekly gatherings. Each Monday night UKirk gathers to worship and share a meal together. If you or someone you know would be interested in signing up for one of these opportunities, please click here to sign up using the google spreadsheet. Meals are an integral part of UKirk ETSU's culture and outreach. Contact the office if you have any specific questions about how you can help support this important ministry of our presbytery.

All items for the weekly online newsletter should be emailed to Mary at office@chpres.org by noon on Wednesday.
