Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that

values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,

you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.

We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers,

and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!

Celebrating the Back-to-School Season!

This week, our Day School resumed its Fall schedule and we are proud to announce they won Best Preschool in the recent TimesNews Readers Choice Awards! Congratulations CHPDS and all who serve in some way to support important ministry!

Please pray a blessing over our teachers, who are guiding these children upon the first steps of a life-long journey of learning. Pray a blessing over these parents, who have entrusted this ministry with nurturing and caring for these young ones. And pray a blessing over these kids who have come to us to learn and grow. May our congregation be about the business of supporting and strengthening this wonderful ministry!

This past Saturday's August Splash Down was a blast! We had a great time enjoying a last hurrah of summer with all the fun the Kingsport Aquatic Center had to offer! It was the perfect way for the entire congregation to celebrate the end of the first week of school. Thanks to our Christian Family Life committee for hosting this event and of course, all the delicious ice cream!

Sunday Night Suppers Kick Off

This Week With a Pot Luck!

Our Fall Sunday Night Suppers return this weekend! For five Sunday evenings in a row, our many membered church family will gather as one at the table to enjoy some blessed fellowship and study God's Word. We'll kick off the night with a pot luck meal starting at 5 pm. Following that, Children and Youth will have their own fun and learning while Adults study scripture together from 5:30-6:30 pm. Our passages come from a few of the parables in Luke's Gospel that Jesus shared to better explain what the kingdom of heaven is like. All are welcome to gather around Christ's table!

Please fill out our Youth and Children Info Form!

A new school year means that all of our children and youth have bumped up into the next grade. For some, this means small changes that may not truly make big impacts. But for others, this may mean entirely new schools or even school for the first time! During these big moments of change that a new school year brings, we as a church family want to know how we can best support you and your family within our ministry. That is why we would like to invite all parents, grandparents, guardians, or any other kind of caregiver to fill out this brief Informational Survey on the child or youth in your life. Please let us know how our ministry can better serve you, we would love to ride the waves of life alongside you and your family!

As we enter a new school year, we anticipate with excitement all the opportunities a new semester brings. One excellent example of the kinds of moments we are called to be mindful for is the chance to serve others! As our students begin their new semester, our church family has an opportunity to support our youth by providing meals for Sunday night youth gatherings. Please follow the link below to see the youth dinner schedule and sign up. Or if you would simply like to contribute to cover meal, please contact Tyler directly. Thanks so much for supporting our fantastic youth group!

Officer Nominations Needed

The 2025 Officer Nominating Committee (ONC) is authorized by the Session to accept suggestions from church members to serve as Elders for the class of 2028, Trustees for the class of 2028, and members of the 2026 Officer Nominating Committee.

From the names you suggest, and dependent upon the work of the Holy Spirit, the ONC will move a slate of five individuals for your approval as Elders, two individuals as Trustees, as well as three individuals to serve on next year’s ONC. In accordance with the Book of Order, a congregational meeting to elect officers has been called by the Session at the conclusion of worship on Sunday, October 26. The deadline for returning your suggestions is Sunday, September 14. You may offer your submissions by completing a nomination form and returning it to the church office or emailing it to Mary directly. Thank you for taking the time to discern who God is calling to lead our church family in this new season!

News from the Pews

CHPC celebrates the birth of Violet Annette Vance, daughter of Wesley and Lindsey Vance, and granddaughter of Vanette and Greg Vance, on Aug. 5. Please hold this family in your prayers as everyone gets to know one another better!

Congratulations to our very own Karen Bland, who earlier this summer broke SIX state records at the TN Senior Olympics for swimming! And congratulations also to Rosemary Sexton, who won 4 gold medals and 3 silver medals at the National Senior Games last month. Who needs to walk on water when CHPC has such talented swimmers like these?

And speaking of friendly competitions, remember those zinnia seeds our church family planted in worship after Easter with the help of our children? Well, two plants belonging to Charles Barrett and Dwight Young are in a race to see who can grow the tallest! Isn't it amazing just how much growth God can bring from something as small as a little seed with a little love and water!

Children are always welcome in worship and have a special time together down front after the prayer of confession. All children may enjoy “Children’s Church” downstairs during the sermon and may be picked up downstairs after worship.

God is doing great things in the life of the Children’s Ministry! If you would like to come downstairs and see for yourself, talk to Tyler about volunteering with the nursery or with the children. Additionally helpers are needed on Sunday nights as we continue to share God's love with our kiddos.

The Remnant class will be on a break this week to attend the Care Portal Lunch and Learn. Please speak with David to learn more about how you can participate in these lively discussions.

The Youth Group will join in on the Sunday Night Suppers series for the next 5 weeks! This Sunday, we will meet in the gym and eat with the rest of the church, then adjourn to the Youth Center for our own bible study. Please reach out to Tyler if you or someone you know would like to participate.

The Holston Presbytery Youth will be hosting a trip to the Johnson City Family Skate Center on August 24. This trip is open to any middle and high school aged kids! Our van will leave from the church at 3:30 pm and we will be arriving back at the church around 6:30 pm. Contact Tyler if you would like to come!
