Colonial High School
CHS Community Member,
Our Grenadiers will be away from December 21 through January 4, 2021 for winter break. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our students, families, educators, staff, partners in education, and the entire Colonial community for the efforts made during the first semester of 2020-2021. The Covid pandemic has presented challenges for every household and the hard work, patience, and cooperation has been much appreciated. Thank you also to those who showed such generosity over recent weeks to help others in our community struggling during this special time of the year; some facing challenges of their own.

On behalf of the Colonial High School administrative team I wish you a safe, fun, and relaxing winter break. I look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 for a successful start to the New Year!

It's Great To Be A Grenadier!

Winter Break Message from OCPS
Covid-19 reporting
OCPS families and staff, as we enter the Winter Break we want to share with you some important information:

To report a positive staff or student COVID-19 diagnosis to us during the winter break, please go to and click on Covid-19 report. The Florida Department of Health has determined that after December 23 they will not be sending quarantine notifications through schools, but will instead reach out directly to individuals who may be exposed to anyone who tests positive. They will resume issuing quarantines through OCPS in the couple of days leading up to classes resuming. Connect Orange notifications will not be sent during the break and the OCPS COVID-19 Dashboard will be updated when the district re-opens.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Barbara Jenkins prepared a short message for students and families just prior to the winter break tied to health & safety. Please click here to listen to Dr. Jenkins' remarks.

Apollo 8 Christmas Eve Broadcast
Apollo 8, the first manned mission to the Moon, entered lunar orbit on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1968. That evening, the astronauts; Commander Frank Borman, Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell, and Lunar Module Pilot William Anders did a live television broadcast from lunar orbit, in which they showed pictures of the Earth and Moon seen from Apollo 8 (above).

Lovell said, "The vast loneliness is awe-inspiring and it makes you realize just what you have back there on Earth." Borman then added . . .

"And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas, and God bless all of you - all of you on the good Earth."

Season's Greetings Grenadiers!
