The Third Sunday in Advent
November 21, 2021
Advent III: Rex Gentium (Christ the King) Sunday
Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Our mission is to become Christ as we serve others, proclaim God’s love, and grow in the Spirit.
Worship at Church of the Holy Spirit is both in-person and online. During this time of the Covid-19 epidemic, we will follow the diocesan guidelines. See the recommendations issued on September 30, 2021.

Preparing for Sunday

Sunday’s readings celebrate the paradoxical kingship of Jesus Christ. David utters his final words and recalls a life dedicated to God (Track 1). In Daniel (Track 2), the one God sends to reign over creation is a human person. Revelation tells us that our trials and suffering will eventually yield to glory and honor when Jesus’ kingship is revealed. In today’s gospel, when questioned by Pilate, the suffering Jesus accepts the title of king but asserts that his kingdom is not of “this world.”

The Giving Branch 2021
During the Advent season, a symbolic Branch of Jesse will decorate our Narthex. The Branch is a representation that connects God’s faithfulness through the Old Testament to the newness in the form of the birth of Jesus. Just as God gave us the gift of life through Jesus Christ, we will share this hope with others in our community through the giving of Christmas gifts.

Please submit all contributions by Sunday, December 12th. If you have any questions, please contact Deanne Altom at 908-534-3425 ( or Michelle Marlow at 908-884-6932 (
