Sunday's readings testify to the power of Christian community. In Acts, God’s Spirit astonishes and empowers the community. 1 Peter encourages the community to consider the blessing—intimacy with the Spirit—that is theirs when they suffer for God’s sake. Jesus prays that God would protect his disciples’ unity.

Readings for Ascension Day:
  • First reading: Acts 1:1-11
  • Psalm: Psalm 47 or Psalm 93
  • Second reading: Ephesians 1:15-23
  • Gospel: Luke 24:44-53
