Strengthening Our Faith



September: Grateful for Family

As we enter the 22nd Week of Ordinary Time, we begin a new month in our schoolwide journey of being Rooted in Christ – Growing in Gratitude. Throughout September, we turn our attention to one of God’s greatest gifts: our families.

Family is where many of us first experience love, sacrifice, forgiveness, faith, and belonging. No family is perfect, but each provides opportunities to recognize God’s presence in the people He has placed in our lives. This month, we encourage our students and families to be intentional about expressing gratitude for one another—not simply for what family members do for us, but for the gift of who they are.

On Friday, we celebrate the Memorial of St. Gregory the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church. St. Gregory understood that Christian leadership begins with humble service. Though entrusted with tremendous responsibility as pope, he famously described himself as the “servant of the servants of God.” His example reminds us that the same spirit of loving service belongs in our homes. Families grow stronger when we willingly serve one another, forgive one another, pray for one another, and place the needs of others before our own.

As we begin September, consider a simple challenge: tell the members of your family why you are grateful for them. Pray together, share a meal, make a phone call, or simply say, “Thank you.” Small acts of gratitude can strengthen the roots of a family and help Christ’s love grow within the home.

May our families remain rooted in Christ, and may the love we share help all of us continue growing in gratitude.

Underclass Picture Day

Our annual School Picture Day for 9th-11th graders is taking place this Monday, August 31.

This year, the process for ordering has been streamlined so that you only order and pay after your child has taken the photo, you have seen them online, and chosen to purchase. Photos that you order will be shipped directly to your home free of charge if you order within the first 10 days after the photos are made available online.

All viewing, ordering, and payment for photos will be done online and is explained in the attached flier. Your student's CHS ID # will be the code to use when viewing/ordering on the online photo portal available at gulfsouthpix.com.

Grandparents' Mass



It is time to honor our student’s grandparents at the annual Grandparents' Mass planned for Friday, September 11. All CHS grandparents of current students are invited to this special occasion. We need your help in notifying your child’s grandparents of this event, dedicated just for them. Here are the details for you to pass on to your child’s grandparents:

 --9:15-9:30 a.m.   Grandparents arrive and go directly to the Gym  

 --10:00 a.m.     Grandparents' Mass will begin

 --Following the Mass, there will be a reception for grandparents and grandchildren!

Grandparents are our heritage and essential members of our families and the Catholic High community. Please encourage them to attend! To assist us with our planning, please complete the RSVP survey linked here. We look forward to honoring our grandparents at this special Mass on Friday, September 11.

Make A Difference Day

Plans for our Make a Difference Day scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, are coming together!  Students were emailed the list of projects and the link to the Participation Survey. They are asked to complete it by Friday, September 4. This event is also an excellent way for both you and your student to get involved at Catholic High and live out our Core Values of Selfless Love and Commitment to Service as you give back or pay it forward to people in our community. If you are available to help, please complete the Google form linked here. Thank you to those who have already volunteered!

Club Meetings

Club Sign-Up Week was a massive success, as we saw a great majority of our students join at least one club. Many of our clubs will have their first meetings this week. Each meeting will take place immediately after school unless otherwise noted. Most after-school club meetings end by 3:45 p.m. Students should check Schoology for club updates and meeting dates. Volleyball

Our Volleyball Teams have started their seasons with three victories. They are back on the court this week. On Monday, Aug. 31, they will host Orange Beach with the JV match beginning at 5:00, followed by the Varsity at 6:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or through GoFan. On Tuesday, Sept. 3, all three teams travel to Ft. Walton Beach. 9th grade starts at 4:30, JV at 5:40, and Varsity at 6:30 p.m. No ticket information is available. On Wednesday, Sept. 2, they will make up their postponed match at Soundside. They also added a JV match. The 9th grade plays at 5:00 and the JV begins at 6:00 p.m. No ticket information is available at this time. The Varsity will spend Friday and Saturday, Sept. 4-5, in Mobile while they compete in 6 matches at the McGill-Toolen Catholic Cup. Their Friday match times are 4:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday's times are 10:00 a.m., Noon, and 2:00 p.m. Ticket information is not yet available.

Football

Our Varsity Football Team goes on the road for the first time this Thursday, Sept. 3, when they will take on Godby at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. EST. Athletic Eligibility Requirements

The athletic eligibility requirements for 2026-27 can be accessed on our school website.

Physicals are good for 1 year or 365 days from the date the physical was conducted. Athletes will not be able to compete in any event, contest, or tryout unless they have a physical on file with our CHS Compliance Office that is current and covers the competition period. All physicals for 2026-27 must be completed on the new EL2 form. Please fill out all sections of the EL2 form that apply to you prior to going in for the physical.

Athletes also need to update or create their online clearance each year. They will not be permitted to participate in an athletic contest without a current Athletic Clearance. Instructions for this process are located on our website. Information from last year will not auto-populate, so students must provide their health insurance information, name and the phone number of their primary care doctor and preferred hospital in order to complete the clearance process.

A new requirement became effective on July 1, 2026. All freshmen athletes, and any other student-athlete who has never played in an FHSAA sanctioned sport, must receive an ECG screening. A completed EL1 Form and the results of the ECG screening must be submitted to the school prior to the student participating in any event, contest or tryout. If the ECG result indicates an Abnormal or a Borderline ECG, the student will not be allowed to participate until the parent and doctor fill out and submit an EL1/2S Form, indicating a Normal ECG or a Normal Variant.

Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) Deals

The FHSAA has created a resource page for any student-athlete wanting to learn about the recently approved NIL bylaws. It is imperative that any athlete that enters into a NIL deal/contract adhere to these bylaws to the letter. They are also required to submit a completed Form GA1 Affidavit of Amateurism to the Athletic Compliance Department within five (5) business days of signing a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) agreement.

Hallow Prayer App

The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee has entered into a year long partnership with Hallow, the world's number one Catholic prayer app. If you're not familiar, Hallow is a free app (with a paid premium subscription level available) that is designed to help people pray. The Rosary, Scripture reflections, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, numerous other devotionals and unique prayer campaigns, often led by celebrities, are all available through the app.

Millions of individuals use it and have been drawn into consistent habits of prayer due to it. Many credit their use of Hallow with a decision to come into full communion with the Catholic Church.

Through our diocesan partnership, Bishop Wack will be leading an initial prayer campaign on vocation, "Called by Name," from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6. This will be available on the main page of the Hallow app for anyone located in the 18 counties of our diocese powered by Hallow's geofencing capabilities.

Dress Code Policy for 2026-27



The Dress Cody Policy for 2026-27 may be accessed through the school website.

Also, male and female students who take PE at CHS must wear Gym shorts that are classified as 6 inch shorts or longer. Shorts less than 6 inches in length are not acceptable.

Parking and Drop Off Policy for 2026-27

We have updated our Parking and Drop Off Policy for the 2026-27 school year. You can access it by clicking here. It is imperative that all parents, guardians, and students follow this policy at all times. We expect everyone to be safe at all times when operating a vehicle. All students and staff should be able to get to and from school, and to transport themselves throughout campus, safely each and every day.

Parking Permit Hang Tags, color-coded by grade, are issued to each student who plans to drive to school any day. Faculty, also, utilize parking permit hang tags. During the school day, student cars may be parked in a CHS lot/space only if they contain a parking permit clearly displayed. Students may park only in the area defined for their class. Parking permit tags will be kept throughout the student's enrollment at CHS and will be collected prior to graduation/withdrawal.

The form on which to register a car for parking was given to each student on Monday, 8/10, for parent completion and signature. The form should be completed, signed by the parent, and handed in to the student's Homeroom Teacher by Wednesday, 8/19. Students who received a parking tag in 2025-26 will continue to use the same tag or may purchase a new one from Coach Faucheaux. If the student is turning 16 later in the school year or will begin driving later in the school year, the form can be turned in once they start driving to school.

Patience is a requirement when dropping your student off in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon. There are several things that you can do to help the process run smoothly. Please read these instructions and adhere to them throughout the school year. Your assistance and cooperation are very much appreciated.

Parents, a few urgent reminders about afternoon student pick-up at CHS. It is IMPERATIVE that people coming to pick-up students PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE! Cars may NOT form lines within the lanes OR park along the curbs!!!

There are open parking spaces in the Football Parking Lot, the West Lot by the Softball Field, and in the Back Lot that is behind the main building. ALL of these lots are available to parents to use when waiting for a student. It is NOT necessary, safe, or allowed to park along the curb or in the lanes. Please give this information to anyone who may be picking up your child at the end of the school day and PLEASE comply!

Also, pleaes do NOT drop off or pick up students along W. Scott Street. You must pull into a lot in order to safely drop off a student!

Semester Exam Policy

CHS implemented a policy that pertains to students who miss semester exams in either December or in May. This policy states: Students who miss semester exams for serious family emergencies or serious health reasons are excused and may make them up. Students absenting themselves from exams for any other reason(s) may NOT make up exams and will receive a zero for each.

Please be aware of these dates when planning family trips, etc. It is also contained in the CHS Parent/Student Handbook that all parents and students are required to read. So this is simply a reminder for you so that family plans will not conflict with our semester exams. As always, we ask you NOT to remove your child from school until his/her last exam is completed. Thank you so much!!

Students may earn exemption from a semester exam in a course if they have 3 or less absences in that course for the semester (remembering that 3 tardies to a class count as 1 absence), if the student’s academic average in the course is a C or better and their overall average in all courses is a 2.5 or better at the end of the first quarter in that semester (Q1 or Q3). Any student who does not have BOTH of these criteria is required to take exams. Every student in 9th-12th grade will take one mandatory exam per semester. The mandatory exam for the Fall Semester will be announced later in the year. This mandatory exam will be scheduled on the first exam day. No student should be absent from school until after this mandatory exam!

Lunch Protocol

Our food service vendor, Panhandle Food Management (PFM), began providing lunch for students to purchase on Wednesday August 12. Beginning on Monday, 8/17, our food vendor, Panhandle Food Management (PFM), is able to offer cash and ID badge payments (for students whose family have created and added funds to their own account) as the means to pay for a purchased lunch. Credit/debit cards are not accepted.

The software that enables creating these accounts should now be available for all students.

Lunch may also be brought from home. Microwaves are available for student use.

Lunch may not be dropped off for students. Students have the option to bring their lunch from home or purchase it in our Student Life Center. Parents who wish to buy their student's lunch using the student's ID badge may post funds on their child's account online here.

If a parent provides snacks for a club meeting or event, they must be store-purchased and individually store-wrapped. No homemade snacks may be brought in for any event. Thank you for helping us to maintain these important protocols.

Parents and Students' Responsibilities for Early Dismissals

Students must bring a note from the parent to the Front Office in the morning before 7:45 a.m. if he/she will need to be dismissed early that day for any reason. The school is unable to dismiss students early if they did not bring in this note from the parent no later than 7:45 a.m. on the day of the needed dismissal. This is true whether the student will return to school that day or not. Please do not call, email or text the Front Office during the school day to request that your child be dismissed at that time. Also, please remember our policy that students may not be dismissed within 30 minutes of the dismissal time at the end of any day.



Parents' Responsibility Regarding Student Absence from School

All parents and students must adhere to the following:

• If your child is going to be absent for a short period of time (1-3 days), please call the Front Office (850-436-6400) by 8 a.m. and leave a message on the attendance mailbox (#2 on our phone system menu), letting us know your child will be out that day. You must also send an absence excuse note in with your child when they next return to school.

• If your child is going to be absent for a prolonged period of time (more than 3 days) for whatever reason (death in the family requiring travel, a family trip, a serious illness or injury, surgery, etc.), please call the front office (850-436-6400) and report the full details regarding your child's absence (expected length of time, nature of the absence, etc.). You must also send an absence excuse note in with your child when they next return to school. Thank you!

CHS Safe Environment Policy

Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse:

In accordance with the Florida Ethics in Education Act and Section 1006.061(1), Florida Statutes, all employees have a duty to report all actual or suspected cases of child abuse, abandonment, or neglect.  Employees will have immunity from liability if they report abuse and have a duty to comply with child protective investigations as per the policy stated instructions in the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee Child Abuse Policy contained in the Pensacola Catholic High School Faculty Handbook.  Failure to report abuse or misconduct is grounds for disciplinary action.   



Reporting Misconduct by Instructional Personnel and Administrators:

All employees and administrators have an obligation to report misconduct by instructional personnel and school administrators which affects the health, safety, or welfare of a student. Examples of misconduct include obscene language, drug and alcohol use, disparaging comments, prejudice or bigotry, sexual innuendo, cheating or testing violations, physical aggression, and accepting or offering favors.

Ordering CHS Transcripts

Catholic High School modified the manner by which CHS transcripts are requested and delivered. We are now utilizing Parchment, a secure online platform that streamlines transcript ordering and delivery.

This change is not just local—the Florida Catholic Conference (FCC) has mandated that all Catholic schools in the state of Florida adopt Parchment for transcript services.

With this change:

• All transcript requests will be submitted directly through Parchment.
• Parchment charges a $5 fee per transcript for current CHS students, which is collected and retained entirely by Parchment (not Catholic High School). Alumni and all other requesting parties will be charged $10 per transcript.
• This new system allows for fast, reliable service and electronic delivery to colleges, universities, and other institutions.

To explain this process, Ms. Kyte has already met with the current Seniors to help them set up their account on Parchment.

The link to Parchment with instructions for its use is now live. We encourage alumni and underclassmen to also create a Parchment account and use it for all transcript requests moving forward.
