Dear CHT Member,
Tulip leaves are emerging, grass is greener, birds are louder. It’s finally safe to say spring is here!
Like seasonal changes, the uncertainty from Covid remains part of our daily lives, and for many neighbors, finding an affordable home does too. That’s why CHT continues to initiate and promote affordable housing development throughout Northwest Vermont, and also why we're asking for legislation that puts public dollars into homes that will remain affordable forever.
April is Fair Housing Month – In recognition of the 1968 Fair Housing Act, many community partners are offering activities and projects this month to raise awareness about housing discrimination and the positive role that inclusive, affordable housing has in thriving communities. As part of Fair Housing Month our Home Education Program is offering a free workshop discuss fair housing issues and provide tenant skills and support. For more information and to register, see the Fair Housing section below.
Last week I met with our state’s two Senators in Washington, DC. We have a great congressional delegation that truly understands the importance of permanently affordable housing! I say more about this on our website and invite you to read my remarks.
Be safe, stay healthy,

Champlain Housing Trust in partnership with Evernorth kicked off construction in March on 36 permanently affordable apartments in a brand new energy efficient building on Stuart Avenue in Colchester.
As Chittenden County continues to struggle with an especially tight housing market, Stuart Avenue Apartments will add 14 one-bedroom, 14 two-bedroom, and eight three-bedroom apartments when it opens in April 2023.

What’s Missing in Gov. Scott’s “Missing Middle” Homeownership Proposal?
|
|
As the legislature examines a proposal put forth by Governor Scott to address the "Missing Middle" in housing, we strongly encourage the public, media, lawmakers and other public officials to review this proposal carefully and critically as it works through the legislative process. We're supportive of allocating public dollars towards homeownership, and want to see it done with the best return on investment.
Please take a moment to read our recent commentary, co-authored by the leadership of the Windham & Windsor Housing Trust, Downstreet Housing & Community Development, and Champlain Housing Trust.

Champlain Housing Trust is excited to announce that the founders of one of Burlington’s busiest and most well-loved restaurants will be expanding their Old North End operations soon. Opened in 2008, Pho Hong owners Dao Le and Lan Hong originally rented their restaurant space in the former Vermont Transit Bus Barns at 325 North Winooski Avenue from CHT. Fourteen years later, they are planning to expand following the purchase of their restaurant space and the former laundromat space next door.
