Dear CHT Member,
Next week, we’ll begin helping people who are unhoused move in to new apartments in Williston. In all, 38 people experiencing homelessness will move into these new homes at Zephyr Place, a former hotel.
By mid-January, we’ll open the Elmwood Emergency Shelters – also known as the “pods” – in Burlington as a temporary stopgap for those who don’t have a permanent home. And work is underway to convert the Ho Hum Motel in South Burlington to 20 new apartments, another step to address the historic numbers of our neighbors who are unhoused.
We all know that the solution to homelessness is housing; that’s why CHT continues to push for more. We’ll have 36 new apartments this spring in Colchester ready to move in, and a second building at Zephyr Place will have another 34 apartments available this winter. That’s 128 new apartments in the next six months.
In the spirt of this season, all of this activity gives me hope.
Here’s what also brings me hope and excitement: seeing all of you at our January 27 Annual Meeting and Dinner. We are hosting this event in person at the Hilton Lake Champlain on Battery Street in Burlington and all CHT members are invited! Please register and choose your meal!
This season is not always bright for everyone and some people may be struggling. Day to day pressures along with the holidays can add stress that sometimes leads to sadness or despair. If this happens to you or someone you care about, reach out for support - help is available 24/7.
May you be healthy and find moments of joy!
