Dear CHT Member,

There has been a lot of news recently about the ending of the motel voucher program and the lack of housing for hundreds of people throughout the State. I wanted to let you know that CHT continues to do its part to respond, work closely with partners, and provide support to people who are experiencing homelessness, including:

  • Creating 20 new apartments with services specifically for people exiting homelessness at the former Ho Hum on Williston Road in South Burlington (now called Braeburn), which will be available in September;
  • Dedicating three apartments at our newest development that is leasing up at Stuart Avenue in Colchester;
  • On top of the hundreds of existing apartments we’ve set aside for people experiencing homelessness, we estimate at least another 10 apartments will be available for homeless families in the coming months;
  • At Harbor Place in Shelburne, we are looking to expand capacity and add an additional 14 suites or rooms to be available for the next six to nine months; and
  • We expect to support the rehab of 40 privately-owned apartments in the next few months to make them available to households experiencing homelessness.

Our commitment is to do all we can to make sure that people have a safe place to live, and I am inspired by the dedication of my colleagues and CHT’s staff in working towards that goal.

There are a couple of notable events coming up that we’ve highlighted below. First, this is NeighborWorks Week and we’re planning a block party with residents at Laurentide in Burlington. We are thrilled to participate in the City’s Juneteenth celebration later this month, and my favorite day of the year – our Members’ Day Picnic – is scheduled for August 5th. Please join us and enjoy an afternoon at North Beach with FREE food and activities for all ages. We’ll have lots of hot dogs and hamburgers, watermelon and ice cream… and more! Really hope to see you there!
