Dear CHT Member,
Working at CHT is very much like life: there are good days and bad, ups and downs, and days filled with hope and sadness.
A couple of weeks ago, we learned about the death of Joseph Allen, known in the community as Birdman, and our hearts sank. He had been staying with us at CHT but mostly, like many people, our staff had grown fond of him as a member of our community.
In contrast, the next day I received word that CHT and our partners would receive a significant boost of funding from Congress to support new rental homes and shared equity homeownership at the site of the old Harbor Place in Shelburne, as well as two very critical projects: an expansion of the Feeding Chittenden property as a homeless resource center in Burlington’s Old North End, and our planned redevelopment of the O’Brien Community Center in Winooski.
The funding is so very much appreciated, but what really gives me hope is seeing CHT’s staff who come in every day to help someone looking for an apartment, or connect a resident to a community resource, or address credit discrepancies to assist someone to buy a home. Our staff are ready each and every morning. And I’m proud that we’ve once again been recognized as a “Best Place to Work” in Vermont, which is what I see every day.
You can improve our communities, too, by learning more about the Acts of Community challenge and joining us by signing on.
