Dear CHT Members and Friends,
The picture above is from our annual Cornerstone Luncheon, which was last week. About 275 people were there to share a meal and support Champlain Housing Trust’s work. It was such an inspiration to see so many come together to connect with each other and join in to support our collective vision of safer, more inclusive, and more affordable communities. I’m feeling thankful heading into the Thanksgiving holiday.
And while we have a ways to go to reach this vision, and more work to do to meet the critical need for housing, we know we can do this with the community’s support. More than 200 people made a gift to support CHT last week, and I hope you’ll consider donating, too. It’s what sustains our programs and moves us closer to our goals.
Late last month, the leaders of the Building Homes Together campaign issued its annual progress report towards reaching housing production and affordability goals for Chittenden County. The bottom line is it’s still not enough. As housing costs continue to escalate, rental vacancy rates consistently fail to exceed even 1%, and homelessness continues to rise, it’s never been more clear that drastic action and investments in housing are needed now.
All of our work depends on local leadership and I want to express my continued appreciation for our Board members and their deep commitment to CHT’s mission. CHT relies on volunteer Board and committee members for guidance and governance – if you are a resident and are interested in learning about Board or committee service, find out more here. We are always looking for interested candidates to fill future vacancies.
We have plenty of room for you to join us at the South Burlington Rotary 7th Annual Ugly Sweater Fun Run & Walk on Dec 10th! CHT is delighted to be a beneficiary this year and we are looking for volunteers and runners and walkers!
