• Pastoral Care

Our church is also facing new challenges as we go through a major transition. Your gift helps ensure our ministry and programs continue.
For guidance on what you might contribute, we ask that you prayerfully consider pledging at least 5% of your after-tax income. And, if possible,
please consider increasing your gift over last year.

Above all, please know that whatever you choose to give is tremendously
appreciated. We’ve included a giving chart to help you determine your support level for the church in 2021.
From a grateful church, we acknowledge and appreciate your continued
commitment to our ministry.

Since we are doing more at home we want everyone to have materials for Advent.

Included in the box is a 10" wreath, candles, votive candle holders, weekly prayers and a calendar of activites.

There are a limited number of boxes available. Boxes will be ready for pick up at church on Saturday, November 14 from 11am - 12 pm. Other delivery options are available.

It’s Shoebox Time

We are participating in Operation Christmas Child!  Samaritan’s Purse collects Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes filled with toys and other fun items and delivers them to children in need around the world in partnership with local churches.

This year, you can participate in two ways.

1.    You can build a shoebox online by going to Build a shoebox online.   With a $25 donation you can click through options to build a shoebox that will be packed by Operation Christmas Child volunteers.

2.    You can pack your own shoebox and we will take them to the local collection center.  We have preprinted shoeboxes you can fill, or you can use your own.

How to Fill a Shoebox:

-       Select a quality “WOW” item such as a doll, stuffed animal, soccer ball with pump.

-       Add toys such as toy cars, jump ropes, yo-yos etc.

-       Other items to add:  School supplies (pens, pencils paper), Accessories (socks, sunglasses, jewelry), Non-liquid Hygiene items (toothbrushes, bar soap, combs)

-       A letter to the child

-       Do not include candy, toothpaste, gum, used or damaged items, war related items, seeds, food, liquids or lotions, medicine, breakable items, aerosol cans)

Shoeboxes must be completed by November 15

Contact Leslie at leslie@piedmontchurch.org to arrange a time to drop off your shoeboxes at church, or to have them picked up at your home. You can also drop off at a local drop off location.
Welcome to our Sunday school program, Digging into Foundations of Faith.

We will be learning what it means to be a Christian. We will explore what the Bible reveals about who God is and how God sees us, how we fit in God’s family, and how we live the Christian life. As we study core concepts of Christianity, we will gain a solid framework for our own relationship with Jesus.

Some of the lessons include: Moses and the Burning Bush (Exodus 3:1-4:17), God Tells Job About His Creation (Job 38-39; Psalm 8), and Jesus Feeds 5,000 (Matthew 14:13-21).

Please look for the links to weekly lessons in The Messenger and in Leslie's weekly emails.

Join Adopt-A-Child Effort

CityTeam Ministries serves the poor and homeless in the Bay Area. They have identified children in the Oakland area who are in need of Christmas gifts (the price range is $25 - $50 per child). Each child has a profile, identifying the age and gift ideas.

If you would like to participate in this program by purchasing a gift for one of these children, just send an email to Janet Peterson at janetp201@gmail.com and our team will send you the pertinent information about your child and the drop-off location for gifts.

Contact us by December 1, and make a child's Christmas special!
Mask Brigade Completes Mission

By Ann Lin, Mask Brigade Coordinator

The Mask Brigade is winding down having sewn and donated 3,010 masks. What an accomplishment we can be so proud of to have stepped up to help our community and its first responders.

I said I would coordinate as long as there was interest and fabric. I am now out of fabric and will be donating my unopened supply of elastic to It Takes a Village - Bay Area. If anyone is interested in sewing more masks, they provide fabric and distribute completed masks.

It’s been a pleasure working with all of you. And don’t forget if you like sewing for a good cause, I coordinate sewing curtains to donate every spring to the houses our Piedmont high schoolers build as part of the Piedmont Church Mexico Mission trip.

Stay safe!

The next Living Room Conversation will take place on Sunday, November 22 from 4 - 5:30 PM. The topic is “Political Peace Building.”

In the aftermath of the presidential election, we will reflect on how we got to the current climate of polarization in our nation, and what the costs of that division are. We’ll talk about ways to cross and heal the divides in our community and better model what a successful democratic republic can be.

In the Living Room Conversation (LRC), we’ll split up into groups of about 5 - 6 people each, moderated by a church member trained in LRC methods, which emphasize respectful listening, understanding others views, and honest sharing.

You must sign up in order to participate.

On the form, please indicate whether more than one person will be sharing a Zoom screen with you. In order to diversify the perspectives within groups from the outset, you’ll also be asked to characterize your own political views on a 5-point scale (this question is optional). After you have signed up, you will receive a confirmation email with a Zoom link and written material to help you prepare for the conversation.

Wednesday Morning Bible Study

Join DR. DON ASHBURN for a study of the New
Testament Gospel of Mark. We’ll meet weekly online from 10 - 11 am. We’ll be using the Zoom online platform.

In the study, we’ll read the text out loud and then discuss its meaning, its original context as well as how it relates to our lives today.

To participate, you’ll need access to a computer or mobile device with audio and visual capabilities. You can have your own copy of the Bible, or read the text as it’s shared onscreen. There’s no homework, and no expectation that you’ve studied the Bible before.

Just join us, and invite your friends! Contact Dr. Ashburn at Don@PiedmontChurch.org. The link for joining the Bible Study online is: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82910582013. It’ll be the same link each week.
