Abstract
The recently completed One Chicago project consists of 3 towers…82 stories, 54 stories, and a 14 story podium. It is a total of 2,217,039 ft2, consumed a total of 125,000 cubic yards of concrete and over 20 million lbs of reinforcing. While building a concrete project of this size is challenging, it also offered many unique aspects, like the top-down excavation and construction below an active high-rise job site or the disassembly of the tower crane over the active CTA red line tunnel and station. This presentation will speak about the project as a whole, the mix designs used, the unique aspects of the project and the challenges and solutions faced throughout concrete construction.
