These statistics provide the only detailed annual information on the number of establishments, employment during the week of March 12, first quarter payroll, and annual payroll for nearly 1,200 industries covered at the U.S. level and by state, county, metropolitan area, ZIP code and congressional district levels. These data are useful for studying the economic activity of small areas; analyzing economic changes over time; and as a benchmark for other statistical series, surveys and databases between economic censuses.
