COMING FROM BEHIND , A NEW FILM FROM BOB NESSON AND SUSAN EDWARDS
Bob Nesson and Susan Edwards are teaming up on their fourth film project, COMING FROM BEHIND . This documentary profiles Ed Jordon who rebuilds his life after 19 years in prison.

“Today, Ed is an ironworker, entrepreneur, and important mentor,” said Bob. “Ed’s life is all
about positive outcomes. We see Ed Jordan as a valuable role model for others --- and the film as
a highly accessible vehicle for delivering his story of hope and guidance.”

“The film is part of a larger civic engagement project,” said Edwards. “We are planning several
elements: educational modules in a variety of formats; a graphic novel that tells the broader story of incarceration and marginalized America; and a podcast series produced in conjunction with
Emerson College’s WERS radio.”

Started with grants from the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities and Emerson College, where Bob teaches, the film is scheduled for completion later this year. Watch the film trailer on the CID website and visit comingfrombehind.org for more information.

WHY DOCTORS WRITE FEATURED AT 'GOLD FOUNDATION HUMANISM IN MEDICINE SUMMIT'
WHY DOCTORS WRITE: FINDING HUMANITY IN MEDICINE will be featured at the first ever Gold
Foundation Humanism in Medicine Summit in a preview screening and panel discussion, on
October 29, 2019, in Orlando, Florida .

The soon-to-be-released documentary, now in post-production, explores the growing
movement in medicine to use writing, humanities, and the arts as means to support practicing
clinicians and prepare medical students for an increasingly challenging healthcare environment.
What began as “medical humanities” in the late 1970s has exploded into myriad 21st century
programs such as Narrative Medicine, physician writing groups, on-line medical student
journals, observation skill training in art museums, and reflective writing seminars in medical
school and pre-med curricula. Some of today’s leading writer-MDs, Danielle Ofri, Rafael
Campo, and others appear in the film. The Gold Summit presents a preview screening of the
film, followed by a panel discussion with the film director Ken Browne and four prominent
physician-writers/educators who appear in the film.

"HOW DO YOU KNOW"
A film by Alexandra Geller

HOW DO YOU KNOW  seeks to reevaluate our modern-day conception of marriage by exploring the social, legislative, economic, and personal forces that drive people to — or away from — formalizing intimate partnerships through the state. Between the first same-sex couple to obtain a marriage license in the U.S., to an interracial couple who wed overseas due to anti-miscegenation laws in their home state, the documentary will weave highly personal, historically significant stories with contextual commentary from pertinent economists, policy-makers, historians, writers, and academics.
