"THE DOCUMENTARY FUTURE: A CALL FOR ACCOUNTABILITY"

"The Documentary Future: A Call for Accountability" is an essential read from Sonya Childress, Senior Fellow with the Perspective Fund, and Natalie Bullock-Brown, StoryShift Strategist with Working Films.

DAWNLAND AND DEAR GEORGINA SCREENINGS AND LIVE Q&A
Upstander Project and Revolutionary Spaces present the Emmy Award winning film  Dawnland  and  Dear Georgina  followed by a live Q & A on Wednesday July 8th at 7pm ET / 4pm PT. RSVP at tinyurl.com/july8dawn .

For decades, child welfare authorities have been removing Native American children from their homes to save them from being Indian. In Maine, the first official “truth and reconciliation commission” in the United States begins a historic investigation.  DAWNLAND  goes behind-the-scenes as this historic body grapples with difficult truths, redefines reconciliation, and charts a new course for state and tribal relations.

In  Dear Georgina  a Passamaquoddy elder journeys into an unclear past to better understand herself and her cultural heritage.

Join Elizabeth Solomon (Massachusett), Roger Paul (Passamaquoddy/Maliseet, lecturer in Native American Studies, University of Maine), filmmaker Adam Mazo, and Upstander Project Learning Director Mishy Lesser for a conversation after the films. The conversation will be moderated by Cedric Woods (citizen of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, and director of the Institute for New England Native American Studies).
THE G WORD RELEASES NEW SHORT
THE G WORD team has released its latest short,  HIGHLY CAPABLE . In this new piece, director/producer Marc Smolowitz focuses his lens on the state of Washington, where gifted and talented programs are called "highly capable" and universal screening for giftedness has become the key strategy being used by one suburban school district to expand chances of identifying underserved students for gifted programs. And earlier this spring, we launched a new social media initiative,  #MyGiftedStory . In tandem with producing our documentary film, we're experimenting with a  visual storytelling project  that focuses on our nation’s gifted and talented population at every stage of life - from urban, suburban, and rural settings, representing zip codes from all 50 states. To learn more about the project (and even participate), check out this  recent blog post  from Marc.

MRS. VERA'S DAYBOOK LAUNCHING IN JULY
NuReality Productions in Berkeley, CA is about to launch their feature film, MRS. VERA'S DAYBOOK in late July. This film about Art, Survival and Love grew out of the CID sponsored short film  Verasphere: A Love Story in Costume in 2019. As that film was making its way around the festival world before premiering on local PBS last year, Producer/Director Robert James was already seeing a bigger story unfold. This entirely new film now features supporting voices telling their amazing stories of activism, long-term-AIDS survival and Community Art.

See the film's website ( mrsverasdaybookfilm.com ) for screening and streaming details. The site includes an amazing gallery of super colorful images that you might need sunglasses for viewing.
