Civil War Series!

 Antietam   Fredericktowne    Monocacy

In an era when the freedom to enjoy cigars is increasingly restricted, it's fortunate that many of these gatherings take place outdoors, where enjoying a fine cigar is still welcome. Finding the right cigar to enjoy alongside the grill with a cold beverage is an absolute must to celebrate our freedom in style.

Davidus the only retailer to feature our Castro Brothers  Civil War series cigars. These cigars, the Fredericktowne, Monocacy, and Antietam, offer beautiful presentation, a range of  profiles, and exceptional value.

The Connecticut wrapped Fredericktowne is a crowd pleaser that offers a smooth, mild smoke with enough flavor to satisfy the occasional as well as regular smoker. The Monocay features a sumatra wrapper and and earthy, medium bodied smoke. The Antietam is the most full-bodied cigar of the line, with a rich Habano wrapper that offers spice and rich smoke.

Antietam, Hobson's Choice, Breakfast Bliss Monocacy,

History of Civil War Cigars

By Henry Leish

It is said that the American cigar industry was born between the years of 1860-1870. By the time of the Civil War (1861-1865), rules and regulations, taxes, and licensing were put in place by the Federal government for the nearly 1500 factories in the United States. Many brands that we know of today have rich histories dating back just slightly before the Civil War in Cuba, Germany, England, Netherlands, and the United States. During the war, cigar smoking was very popular and was enjoyed by high ranking officers and enlisted men alike. At an average cost of five to ten cents per cigar, many indulged in this great pleasure.

Below are photos of an original cigar box and cigars that were captured by a Union soldier from Illinois during the Civil War.

The Battle of Gettysburg occurred on the first three days of July, 1863. If Davidus Cigars was in business back then, it's quite possible that the course of history could have had a different outcome. Rather than marching to the battlefield, soldiers like these would have enjoyed their cigars in our comfortable  lounges.
