May/2017

Dear CIHS Community Members,

The weather has become beautiful in Southern California. I hope everyone has a wonderful spring season. Our May newsletter has several articles. First, Dr. Hope Umansky introduces some important events at CIHS including our CIHS' Annual Conference 2017, "Forefront Consciousness & Healing Science Research: Reports from the Field" which takes place on our beautiful campus, Saturday, July 8 & 9. This conference is open to the public. Please see our website for details. (  https://www.cihs.edu/index.php/events/#SES ). We will soon concretize the speakers schedule so please stay in touch in our website as well as our Facebook page (  https://www.facebook.com/cihs.edu )

The second article is a review of our annual yoga workshop with Paul Grilley, which was held on the weekend of April 22 & 23. The focus of the yoga workshop this year was on the Theories of the Chakras.

In the following two articles, we have information announcing the Community Events organized by Dr. Ji Hyang Padma and the conference at which Dr. Thomas Brophy is presenting this summer.

If you are interested in CIHS or have questions about any of our programs, please visit our website ( www.cihs.edu ) or directly contact Dr. Hope Umansky ( hope_umansky@cihs.edu ) for any assistance. If you are local and would like to visit our campus and discuss our exciting and unique graduate programs and research opportunities in person, we will be happy to schedule a time. Many of our classes can be taken as an audit course if you are interested in seeing what CIHS classes are like or are passionate about a particular topic. Please do not hesitate to ask us about this process. We welcome all like-minded inquires.

Sincerely,

The California Institute for Human Science's annual Summer Symposium 2017 will be Forefront Consciousness and Healing Science Research: Reports from the Field, July 8 and July 9, on our beautiful Encinitas Campus. CIHS welcomes your participation in our community of scholars. There is exciting work being done at the forefront of consciousness and healing research. This includes studies that explore subtle energy healing and intentionality, research into altered states of consciousness, in-depth research into ancient and contemporary healing practices, models of the subtle body, chi energy measuring devices research, and reflections on the ways these insights and praxis may serve to create a more healthful, peaceful, and just society. The conference will consist of both formal presentations along with many experiential components to demonstrate applied healing research.

This conference seeks to investigate the relationship between the practice of subtle healing methods and their research.

This year's conference will feature keynote speakers:

Review
A Yoga Workshop with Paul Grilley
Theory and Pracitice of the Chakras

CIHS' Annual Yoga Workshop, during the weekend of April 22 and 23, with Paul Grilley, a renown yoga teacher (Paul is the founder of Yin Yoga), as well as a well-versed anatomy teacher was very successful. This year, Paul introduced the basic technique of chakra meditation, per the classic text, "Theories of the Chakras" by Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama. This famous book outlines both ancient and modern theories of chakras and varieties of practice (asana, pranayama, bandha, and concentration) to safely and effectively awaken the chakras.

In this specific two-day workshop, attendees learned first the basic concepts of multiple dimensions of human beings and their relation to the chakras, which is a key concept in "Motoyama Philosophy." The attendees then learned how subtle energy (ki, qi, prana) are related throughout the chakras and multiple bodies. Those concepts are a very good introduction to practice to awaken the chakras. We focused on the first and second chakras this year, along with leaning basic asana and meridian exercises that prepare the body and mind for meditation.

The workshop was a wonderful and pragmatically useful guide to the chakras, and on many different levels, we all learned from the experienced teacher. We plan to offer the next series of CIHS' annual yoga workshop in 2018 with Paul Grilley, so please stay in touch. If you have any questions, please contact me anytime at hideki_baba@cihs.edu

Sincerely,

Hideki

This flow is represented in our Pulsation of Being - from the cellular to the interstellar system. On the physiological level it is moved by the rhythm of the heart which again is influenced by our physical, emotional and mental attitudes which shape our attitudes and personalities.

To experience these energies and understand how you participated in structuring your experiences in life, Siegmar will guide you from intrauterin pre-natal and post-natal conditions, through early developmental movements to intra-personal and inter-personal perceptions, connecting you with a Unity of Being, that enables you to direct your life from your personal and social level into larger dimensions of your transpersonal existence with the Will of Your Heart™.

and Other Endeavors!

Dear CIHS Community,

Everyone associated with CIHS community plays an integral role in the adventure of higher learning and research that is CIHS. It is in this spirit that we write to you in this season of giving. CIHS is more committed than ever to providing a future generation of therapists, healers, researchers, scientists, educators, writers, and thought-leaders with an unparalleled education that integrates science and spirit along with academic rigor. Since Dr. Motoyama's passing in September 2015, our dedication to his mission has only strengthened.

CIHS has embarked on a critically important new venture: the accreditation process with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the most renown accrediting body in the world, and CIHS is now independently governed.
WASC accreditation will re-categorize CIHS from a vocational school to a recognized forefront institute of higher education, which is more accurate to what CIHS is, and greatly enhances the perceived value of CIHS degrees. CIHS has successfully passed Phase I, Eligibility, and we are diligently working on Phase II. As you can imagine, the tasks of institutional improvements, educational initiatives, administrative restructuring, experiential improvements for students and professors, and other projects initiated from this process are massive. CIHS has a great opportunity to improve its educational experience, process, and product -- the graduate who goes out into the world to lead and improve our global humanity within Dr. Motoyama's vision of psychospiritual growth. It is in this spirit that we ask you to consider CIHS, a 501c3 non-profit organization, in your annual giving plan.

Your support will serve to strengthen Dr. Motoyama's and CIHS' legacy, and enhance the reflection of your association with CIHS. Your gift, at whatever level you are able, will be an enormous boost to this initiation of CIHS' newly invigorated endowment building effort. Please feel free to reach out to us with your questions or recommendations.

Gifts can be sent to CIHS, 701 Garden View Court, Encinitas, CA 92024, or you can kindly go to our website donation page. An in kind donation letter will be provided to you for your taxes. Our website donation page is here:
