Dear CIM Orchestra Students,

Greetings to each of you, both returning and new incoming students! We hope that you are healthy and staying in tune with your physical and mental well-being. We are writing to share some information about CIM Orchestra auditions that will take place once the semester begins.

Every year, all students registered for CIM Orchestra play a short audition at the beginning of the fall semester. For those of you also registered for chamber music, these auditions assist the chamber music coordinators with forming groups and other assignments. Audition requirements are drawn from standard orchestral audition lists and set by the faculty in each instrument area.

We have created audition packets for each instrument area outlining the requirements and providing PDF parts. You can access your packet here . If you have any questions about the requirements, please email Ensembles Manager [email protected] .

For those of you who will be on campus, auditions will occur in person in one of our concert halls. They will be recorded and you and your teacher will have access to the recording. Auditions will be scheduled between August 10 and 19; details will we shared in August. If you are unable to be in Cleveland during the audition window, please use this form to let us know that you will need to submit a recorded audition.

Like all of you, we are closely monitoring the changing local and national COVID-19 trends and are seeking guidance from as many sources and studies as possible to determine the best plan for CIM Orchestra activities during the fall semester. While these plans are not complete, we will provide meaningful options for students both on and off campus. All in-person activities will occur in the safest possible manner and no one will be required to participate in something that is outside their level of comfort from a health and safety standpoint. Once the plans are fully developed, we’ll send an update.

We are committed to supporting all of the students in CIM Orchestra regardless of the circumstances. You can communicate with any of us at any time regarding this information or about other questions; if we don’t know the answer, we’ll direct you to the person that can best assist you. We can’t wait to see you again or meet you for the first time in August, whether in Cleveland or online, and wish you continued good health as you prepare for the semester ahead.

Looking forward,
