CIM Sets New Record at Annual Auction at World of Concrete
The National Steering Committee (NSC) for the Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program set a new record raising more than $1.2 million in gross revenue at its annual auction, held in conjunction with the World of Concrete on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

"The 2019 World of Concrete Auction was our best ever,” commented Mike Philipps, CIM Auction Committee Chairman. “This year’s auction was a tremendous success, both in terms of the value of donated items and the number of attendees at the Auction. The results are indicative of the high value the concrete industry places on the CIM program.”
The 2019 CIM Auction featured two ready mix trucks, including: a Mack® Granite ® Bridge Formula mixer donated by Mack Trucks, Inc. and equipped with a Beck Industrial mixer; and a 2019 Kenworth T880S truck with a Con-Tech Manufacturing bridge-formula rear-discharge BridgeKing mixer. 
Once again, we had incredible support from the World of Concrete show management, Informa and Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers. We thank the many companies such as Mack Trucks, Inc., Beck Industrial, Con-Tech Manufacturing, Kenworth and Kenworth of Central Florida, Somero Enterprises, Inc. and the numerous companies that donated items to the Auction to make it a complete success.
CIM Program Releases Annual Report for 2017-2018
The CIM program is pleased to announce the release of the 2017-2018 annual report. Compiled by the NSC, the report was distributed recently at World of Concrete.

Highlights of this year's CIM annual report include:
* Committee Reports (Education, Marketing, Long-Range Planning, Auction, Finance)
* Institutional reports from all CIM programs
* MBA program update
* Profiles of CIM students, graduates and faculty

"The CIM annual report is a testament to the dedication and effort of the CIM program leaders, faculty and students," said Brian Gallagher, chairman of the CIM Marketing Committee. Chico State's Silva receives Weatherton Award
To highlight CIM’s success in developing young industry professionals, in 2015, World of Concrete established the Weatherton Award, established to honor Bob Weatherton and his many contributions to the concrete industry. Each year during World of Concrete, students from the CIM program are invited to present information on their industry-based internships, applied research participation and conclusions from capstone class work. The presentations are judged by a panel of industry professionals.

The award, along with a $2,500 scholarship, was presented to California State University -Chico student Paige Silva at CIM’s National Steering Committee meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 23.   Congratulations Paige!

Savanna Sitz, a senior at Texas State University

Why did you choose to attend Texas State University?
I chose Texas State because of the CIM program and the amazing location. No other school in the state has the unique program or anything with similar opportunities. Texas State also has a beautiful campus in San Marcos; the area is full of clear rivers and hiking trails and is close to Austin and San Antonio.

Why did you choose the CIM program?
I joined the CIM program because my brother was currently in the program. I saw the internship and lab assistant opportunities he received and it was hard to ignore how highly he talked of the program and his professors. When I decided to change majors, it was easy to choose a degree that had such a high employment rate and that incorporated my favorite subject: infrastructure.

What are your career goals?
After graduation I plan to work for a ready-mix concrete company in Texas in operations or quality control. I love the hardworking people who make up the concrete industry and hope to end up in operations management or sales as I further my career.

Have you participated in any internships during your time at Texas State?
During the summer of 2017, I had the opportunity to work with Lafarge-Holcim in Dallas, Texas. This past summer, I worked for Lehigh Hanson’s Houston ready-mix division. The highlight of my summer was working on a water sample project. I tested the mixing water from 20 ready-mix plants around the Houston area for compliance with TxDOT standards. I also helped with a 7,500+ yard overnight mass pour. It was an incredible experience learning about the scheduling and planning that goes into a project of that size and then getting to witness it and help hands on with the team on the jobsite.

How has CIM prepared you for working in the concrete industry?
The CIM program at Texas State has prepared me in many ways to enter the concrete industry after graduation. Twice a year, we have a career fair that gives students the opportunity to meet with concrete industry employers for internships and full-time jobs. All of our CIM classes have real-life applications and are tailored to teach us everything we need to be successful in our future careers.
