CIRTL@UCLA: Register for Grad PD 496A!

Grad PD 496A: Introduction to Evidence-Based Teaching

Grad PD 496A is a learning community focused on Evidence-Based Teaching. This year Grad PD 496A is being offered remotely, but we plan to have some in-person events to help build community and connection. This course is open to graduate students and post docs from ALL disciplines who are committed to teaching inclusively. This course satisfies some requirements for the CIRTL@UCLA Associate level certification pathway. Graduate students should also officially register on my.ucla.edu.

Preparing for the Fall Quarter

Get ready for an inspiring three-day event - the Academic Technology Fall 2023 Expo on September 13 -15! This event welcomes instructors, TAs, and support staff to engage in interactive sessions and hands-on workshops, where you'll gain practical tools and strategies to enrich the educational experience for all Bruins. During the expo, you will be guided in preparing your Bruin Learn course site for the upcoming Fall Term.

The 50th Annual TA Conference

In-person sessions on September 18 – 20 (Monday to Wednesday) &

Zoom sessions on September 21 – 22 (Thursday and Friday)


There will be programming and events from experienced TAs and professors who will share their best practices and strategies to support equity-focused teaching in Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, STEM, and writing-intensive courses. But wait, that's not all! During the Monday to Wednesday in-person sessions, they're taking it up a notch by dedicating intentional time to allow you to develop your unique teaching identity and unlock growth and professional development opportunities for seasoned TAs.


TLC is also focusing our Thursday and Friday Zoom sessions on the Foundations of Training workshops to give new TAs the opportunity to complete the workshop requirements. Descriptions of the workshops can be found in the Workshop Descriptions tab on their website. New GRAD Student Welcome

On Wednesday, September 27, from 4pm - 6:30pm, the Division of Graduate Education will welcome new graduate Bruins into the UCLA community at Wilson Plaza! UCLA's newest Bruins will enjoy a relaxing evening of delicious food, entertaining music by DJ Matt Graumann, raffle prizes, photo booths, fun games, and the camaraderie of other graduate students, faculty, and staff.

Grad Student Resource Fair

The Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC) and the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) have partnered to host an in-person resource fair. The resource fair is designed to connect you with UCLA services and programs that support the graduate student and TA experience. ALL new graduate students and future, current, or returning TAs are welcome to attend the resource fair. The Resource Fair sessions are designed to be a more direct opportunity to connect with resources of interest and get your questions directly answered. Check out the directory, which contains information about participating organizations and information about those who can't make it to Resource Fair, but want to support and connect with you throughout your graduate school journey! Note: the directory will be continually updated until the event.

The GPPD Equity and Outreach working group is pleased to announce the 2023 GPPD Career Development Award!

The GPPD will award up to 30 grants to graduate students, professional students, and postdocs to support their attendance at the annual POD conference, held November 14-17th online or November 16-19th in-person in Pittsburgh. The grant covers all conference registration fees for either online or in-person attendance as well as one year of POD membership dues. Awardees are expected to attend 2-3 GPPD hosted or related events or sessions at the conference. Those from institutions not historically represented at POD (e.g., HBCUs, Tribal Colleges, HSIs, MSIs) and/or from underrepresented identities are highly encouraged to apply!

Postdoc Opportunities

Applications are still being accepted for 2023-2024 Faculty Diversification Internships at Bakersfield College


As of 2022, nearly 90% of program participants have successfully received offers for full-time/tenure track or part-time faculty positions in higher education. Are you ready to commence your journey as a faculty member in the community college?

 

For program consideration, applicants must submit the following documents as part of their online application:

  • A letter of interest specifying why you are interested in teaching students at Bakersfield College. The letter should also discuss how your educational experiences have prepared them to teach at a community college with a diverse student body, like Bakersfield College.
  • An updated curriculum vitae with at least three professional references with contact information listed. One of the references needs to be from a current or former supervisor.
  • College/university transcript (unofficial transcripts will be accepted), including all college units attempted.
  • One signed letter of recommendation written within the last six months specifically for the Bakersfield College Faculty Diversification Fellowship Program from an individual who has provided post-secondary academic instruction to the applicant.

Make your CIRTL certification official!

There are three levels of certification for the CIRTL program, each level has unique learning outcomes:

  1. CIRTL Associate: recognizes the role of the CIRTL core ideas in effective teaching and learning
  2. CIRTL Practitioner: addresses scholarly teaching using the CIRTL core ideas to demonstrably improve learning of students by completing a teaching-as-research (TAR) project
  3. CIRTL Scholar: advances teaching and learning, and makes the results from TAR project public.
