Remembering Samantha (Sammy) Theresa Mensah | |
|
The CEILS and CIRTL@UCLA teams wish to honor the memory of an incredible woman, scientist, and equity champion, Samantha (Sammy) Theresa Mensah, who recently passed away. Samantha was a graduate student in the department of Chemistry & Biochemistry and was a Graduate Student Researcher with CEILS during part of her time at UCLA. Sammy contributed to our team in many ways, especially regarding development and assessment of our Becoming an Antiracist Educator workshops. We will always remember her for the way she lit up the room with both her personality and passion for equity and inclusion. In her free time, she enjoyed playing video games, playing banjo, and trapeze. Sammy was a unique and vibrant individual who accomplished many things during her life and we encourage all to read about her and the mark she left on the world here. She will be forever missed and we are holding her loved ones close in our hearts. If you or someone you know is struggling with feelings around grief and loss, please click here and review the list below for campus resources.

We are excited to announce our first ever Teaching as Research Day held on April 26 from 12-5pm PST. TAR Day will include several events including a watch party luncheon for the CIRTL Network TAR Presentations from 12-1:30, a social, games, and conversation hour from 1:30-3, and a series of lightning talks followed by a poster session and happy hour reception from 3-5. You are welcome to come for some of the time or stay the whole day- whatever works with your schedule! RSVP here!
If you would like to present your TAR project, there are 3 possible ways you could do it (AND you can do all three if you want!)
-
Sign up for the all-network presentations (12-1:30). You can learn more and sign up here.
-
Present a poster at the CEILS Ed Talks Poster Session (4-5).
-
Present a lightning talk before the poster session (3-4). If you are presenting a poster, you also have the option to present a 5-10 minute talk before the session starts to garner interest in your project and invite folks to visit and engage with more questions. Ideally folks presenting a lightning talk will also present a poster, but if you are unable to make the poster session and still want to present to an audience at UCLA, you are welcome to give a lightning talk. Register to present a poster and/or lightning talk here.
