Dear Members and Associates,
Over the past two weeks, all Governments, Federally and Provincial have taken measures to counteract the spread of COVID-19. In addition, many economic programs have been put in place for affected workers and businesses. The programs are numerous and vary across the country. The CISC has assisted by placing links to the Federal and Provincial COVID-19 government sites relevant to you

At the end of this week, nearly all Provinces have defined essential services. With the exception of Quebec, construction job sites across the country were deemed essential and remain open. Quebec construction job site are closed until April 13, 2020. All manufacturing, which includes steel fabrication and its supply chains, were also deemed essential by most provinces and are permitted to remain operational. In Quebec, steel fabricators were required to apply for special permits to remain operational. In most cases, these special permits allow for continued operation at a reduced capacity of 30%, other than high priority essential projects like hospitals which allows 100% capacity.

Safety is of special concern for both the manufacturing plant and construction site. There have been a number of publications from across Canada recently that provide guidance on safety during the COVID-19 crisis. We recommend you review these guidelines in conjunction with your provincial labour ministry requirements. Remember provincial labour requirements rule.

This CISC is here to help. Please visit our website under the COVID-19 tab for further information.

We are Steel and We are in this Together.
Stay safe and think safety.
