NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS UPDATE NOUVELLES DU CONSEIL D'ADMINISTRATION

by Angela Drainville As National Board President, I feel compelled to update our members on the state of winter in the Yukon. Although it isn't quite as warm as the rest of the country, there are visible signs of spring. It is almost consistently warmer than -30oC during the day, and the light is returning at breakneck pace. In fact, kids are no longer going to and leaving from school in the dark, which is one of the surest signs that we have made it through.   Spring means that face-to-face meeting of the Board of Directors has taken place. It was held in mid-February in Montreal. We arrived just in time to celebrate the 40+ cm of snow that fell just prior to our arrival, causing many of us concern about whether or not we would make it in (or out) on time. However, we were able to come together to work on some critical tasks, namely the approval of our new By-Laws and Governance Policy. These two documents will work in tandem to help shape the way that our organization runs, and will serve as a foundation to the on-going sustainability and success of our organization.   At the Board meeting, we also had updates from our National Coordinator, Monique Corbeil on EXPO-SCÈNE .  She reported that the event is sold-out again this year and that we are welcoming 8 new members who are exhibiting for the first time. There are four workshops taking place prior to the opening of the show with over a dozen TEC Talks seminars scheduled during the show. The work of CITT/ICTS is facilitated by the funds generated through this event, and were it not for the tremendous efforts of our National Office so much of what we do would not be possible.   We also spoke about the planning for CITT/ICTS Rendez-vous 2019 in Whitehorse. The Yukon Host Committee has been working diligently to build a conference program that is technically excellent, while reflecting the unique culture and landscapes of the north, while expanding our offerings to target inclusivity and diversity within our industry.    We sincerely hope that everyone plans to attend this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for CITT/ICTS to make an impact on Canada's North this August.   I do want to say a quick thank you to the Board of Directors who have all agreed to give of themselves by working with me through this quick transition. I also want to lift up my colleagues who serve as regional section chairs across the country, your support has been incredibly helpful. Finally, I'd like to share a word of gratitude to our National coordinator and our staff team. You are the glue that holds us together, and we are grateful for your efforts.   As always, your ideas and suggestions for how we can improve and grow our organization are always welcome. Please feel free to drop me a line at  [email protected]. par Angela Drainville En tant que présidente du conseil d’administration national du CITT/ICTS, j’ai bien envie de vous raconter notre fin d’hiver au Yukon. Bien qu'il ne fasse pas aussi chaud que dans le reste du pays, il y a des signes visibles de printemps. Il fait presque toujours plus chaud que moins 30°C pendant la journée et la luminosité revient à une vitesse vertigineuse. En fait, les enfants ne se rendent plus à l'école et ne la quittent plus en pleine noirceur, ce qui est l'un des signes les plus sûrs que nous avons réussi à traverser l’hiver.   Le printemps signifie que le conseil d’administration a tenu une réunion en face-à-face, à la mi-février à Montréal, où nous sommes arrivés juste à temps pour célébrer les 40 cm de neige qui venaient de tomber, ce qui a tracassé bon nombre d'entre nous : arriverons-nous à temps et pourrons-nous repartir? Nous nous sommes penchés sur certaines tâches critiques, à savoir l'approbation de notre nouveau règlement général et de notre politique de gouvernance. Ces deux documents réunis aideront à définir le mode de fonctionnement de notre organisation et serviront de fondement à sa viabilité et à son succès.   Lors de cette réunion, notre coordinatrice nationale, Monique Corbeil, a fourni des mises à jour sur EXPO-SCÈNE . Elle a indiqué que l'événement affiche à nouveau complet cette année et que nous accueillons 8 nouveaux membres qui exposent pour la première fois. Quatre ateliers auront lieu avant l'ouverture du salon et plus d'une douzaine de causeries TEC sont programmées pendant le salon. Le travail du CITT/ICTS est facilité par les fonds générés par l’événement. Sans les efforts considérables déployés par notre bureau national, nous ne pourrions pas en faire autant. Nous avons également parlé de la planification du Rendez-vous CITT/ICTS 2019 à Whitehorse. Le comité hôte du Yukon travaille assidûment à mettre sur pied une programmation techniquement excellente qui reflétera la culture et les paysages uniques du Nord et élargira notre offre afin de cibler l’ouverture et la diversité au sein de notre industrie.   Nous espérons sincèrement que, à l’instar du CITT/ICTS, vous serez nombreux à sauter sur cette occasion unique d'avoir un impact sur le Nord canadien en août.   Je tiens à remercier les membres du conseil d’administration qui ont accepté de travailler avec moi tout au long de cette transition rapide. Je n’oublie pas non plus mes collègues présidents des sections régionales à travers le pays. Votre soutien a été incroyablement utile. Enfin, je voudrais dire un mot de gratitude à notre coordonnatrice nationale et à notre personnel de bureau. Vous êtes le ciment qui nous unit et nous vous sommes reconnaissants de vos efforts.   Comme toujours, chers membres, vos idées et suggestions sur la manière dont nous pouvons améliorer et développer notre organisation sont les bienvenues. MEMBERSHIP FEES INCREASE FOR 2019-2020 AUGMENTATION DES FRAIS D'ADHÉSION EN 2019-2020

CITT/ICTS will be introducing new membership fees in our next fiscal year.  This will be the first major fee increase since 2005. The membership fees were last adjusted in 2014 with the add-on of the GST/HST and QST to the membership fees.  At that time, the Board of Directors recommended that the fees remain stable for three to five years. Over time the purchasing power of the unchanging membership fees declines with inflation. Fortunately, inflation over the past five years has been minimal. The rates for the next three years, will be:  Once again, we will avoid annual membership rate increases by locking the fees in for a minimum of three years.  For the moment, the membership benefits remain the same, however the Finance Committee will be reviewing and updating the benefits in the near future. Below is the breakdown of the increase by category: Student membership fees remain low to encourage students to become members. Students can remain members at the same rate  up to two years following their graduation. Retirees can afford a small increase. Individual and Professional membership fees have a minor increase. Non-Profit Organizations have a slightly greater increase, but our fees are still remarkably reasonable for most organizations. We are asking our Sustaining members for a bit more support. The Contributing category remains the same as this category provides enhanced contribution to CITT/ICTS.  We encourage all our members to contribute beyond their membership fees and most do, notably as sponsors of our events or by providing support in many other ways. Ce sera la première augmentation importante des cotisations depuis 2005.  Les frais d’adhésion ont été ajustés en 2014 avec l'ajout de la TPS/TVH et de la TVQ. À cette époque, le conseil d'administration avait recommandé que les cotisations restent stables pendant trois à cinq ans. Au fil du temps, le pouvoir d'achat des cotisations inchangées diminue avec l'inflation. Heureusement, l'inflation a été très raisonnable au cours des cinq dernières années. Les taux pour les trois prochaines années seront les suivants: Encore une fois, nous éviterons les augmentations annuelles des frais d’adhésion en les gelant pendant au moins trois ans. Pour le moment, les avantages des membres restent les mêmes, mais le comité des finances les réexaminera et les mettra à jour dans un proche avenir. Vous trouverez ci-dessous la ventilation de l'augmentation par catégorie : Les frais d'adhésion des étudiants restent bas pour les encourager à devenir membres. Les étudiants peuvent rester membres au même taux jusqu'à deux ans après l'obtention de leur diplôme. Les retraités peuvent se permettre une petite augmentation. Les cotisations des membres individuels et professionnels ont légèrement augmenté. Les organismes à but non lucratif subissent une légère augmentation, mais nos frais restent remarquablement raisonnables par rapport à la plupart des organismes. Nous demandons à nos membres corporatifs un peu plus de soutien. La catégorie des membres bienfaiteurs reste la même car elle fournit une contribution bonifiée à CITT/ICTS. Nous encourageons tous nos membres à contribuer au-delà de leurs cotisations et la plupart le font, notamment en tant que commanditaires de nos événements ou en apportant leur contribution de diverses autres façons. Merci à tous pour votre soutien continu à CITT/ICTS et à ses sections régionales!
