Sherman, Texas shot into the spotlight several years ago when it was recognized during the COVID-19 pandemic for its assets in helping address the supply chain deficits in relation to semiconductors.

A FOCUS ON TECH EDUCATION

Tech Education


Schools from K-12 to college are getting involved in the tech boom in Texoma. Sherman High School (pictured to the right) is offering partnerships with high-tech firms like TI to expand STEM opportunities. 



Sherman ISD has also teamed up with the National Math & Science Institute to help prepare students for careers in STEM fields.


North Texas Semiconductor Institute


Meanwhile, the University of Texas at Dallas is working to streamline research and university work across Texas to help advance the semiconductor industry in Grayson County.


The institute is working with schools K-12, community colleges and higher education facilities within the University of Texas system.

Numbers are in for U-Haul's Growth Index report for 2013, and for the third consecutive year, more people moved to Texas than any other state.


And there is evidence of that growth in Sherman...


"This year alone, new values from new properties that were built added almost $300 million of value to the roll, so that's a substantial number," said Sherman Deputy Mayor Shawn Teamann. "It's just an indication of the growth that we're experiencing."

Sherman City Council approves 200-acre Greenway Development

The Sherman City Council approved plans for a 200-acre residential, and retail development to be built on OB Groner Rd. near FM 1417 in Monday’s meeting.


After the Greenway development was denied by the Sherman Planning and Zoning Committee in December, contractors were able to appeal with the city council which approved the plans.

Grayson College calls for $456.5 million bond

The Grayson College Board of Trustees has called for a $456.5 million bond, “that would allow us to expand our facilities and as we see the growth coming to our area,” said Grayson College President, Dr. Jeremy McMillen.


Growth brought by TI and Global Wafers, “they need 750 employees to work in the technician space each year for the foreseeable future, in fact, that number goes to 1,000,” Dr. McMillen said.
