Reopening Los Rios
Last month, Chancellor King shared an update announcing the members of the district-wide re-opening planning team. VPSS Dr. Davin Brown is a member of that team and representative for our college. Davin and the re-opening planning team are committed to creating opportunities to secure your feedback for consideration on key issues.

The first opportunity to share your thoughts will be Thursday, January 14 at 8 a.m. Davin will briefly highlight the purpose, timeline, communication plan, and key issues of our district wide plan, but the primary focus of this session will be to capture your thoughts and ideas. I welcome you and your colleagues to join the call and share your input.

DE Training

The Foundations in Canvas Course Design training is a resource to assist faculty in becoming dynamic instructors in the online course modality. Developed by Los Rios Online Course Design Coordinators with consultation by the Learning Management System (LMS) coordinators, the asynchronous training can be completed in approximately 15 hours and is facilitated by a faculty member with extensive experience teaching online.

This training meets the district's new minimum standard for distance education preparation referenced in section 4.4.4 of the LRFCT 2020-2023 Contract.
 
Faculty who complete the Foundations training are eligible for compensation. Completion can be applied towards tenured and tenure-track faculty Flex, College Service obligations, or one unit of class advancement.
SCC will be closed on Monday, January 18 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday; no synchronous classes will be held and all remote colleges offices will be closed.

COVID-19 has brought us many changes and this year it includes changes to the MLK Day March that SCC has proudly participated in for many years. This year's march will be a car caravan and parade starting at Grant HS with a pick-up location at SCC.

Scholarship Season Opens January 15!

Scholarship applications will be accepted January 15 - March 5. Last year SCC Philanthropy was able to award 400 scholarships to students for a total of $268,000 in support.

Help us make this year our biggest and best year yet by reminding students to apply!

As part of the application process, students will be requesting recommendations so be on the lookout for emails from losrios.academicworks.com (they are from us!). The recommendation form is online and is quick and easy to complete.
