The Market Octavia Plan continues to take shape as the Planning Commission
rezoned the 84 acres in May
which, "could pave the way for 1,640
additional
homes past current standards," and increases the height on 18 current parcels within the boundaries.

as new buildings take shape and other developments move forward:
Construction on 49 South Van Ness/1500 Mission, the site of the old Goodwill, is nearly complete. The building will feature a new one-stop Permit Center and offices for multiple City agencies.
At Fifteen Fifty (1550 Mission), move-ins are now in progress. The 40-story building features 550 apartments (20% BMR), an Equinox gym and a new Bar Agricole.
Lendlease's
30 Van Ness was approved by the Planning Commission in June
. The 49-story building on the north east corner of Van Ness and Market will feature 350 apartments, with 25% permanently BMR, as well as office space and ground-floor retail.
The 98 Franklin St. project is also moving forward after unanimous approval from the Planning Commission; King notes it will feature "a five-story home for the French American International School beneath 30 stories of apartments."
And 10 South Van Ness
, featuring 984 new residential units at the south west corner of Market and Van Ness (the old Honda dealership), was also approved by the Planning Commission in June.

SFCM Bowes Center On Schedule to Welcome Students in the Fall
While some things remain up in the air due to COVID-19,
San Francisco Conservatory of Music's new Bowes Center
remains on schedule to open its doors before the start of the Fall 2020 semester.
Now completed, the building at 200 Van Ness features dorm-room housing for 420 students, state-of-the-art teaching facilities and three new performance halls for public concerts.

Shop District Businesses, Many Allowing Shoppers to Return to the Store

SFMTA Temporary Loading Zone & New Outdoor Dining
In May, SFMTA streamlined business permission for curbside pick-up and following this, on June 12, restaurants were able to resume outdoor dining on current patio spaces as well as apply to the City's Shared Spaces program
to move their dining rooms outdoors during the COVID-19 shelter-in-place. Check in with your favorite District restaurants to see if they have curbside pick-up and/or have an outdoor dining space such as The Market on Market
shown here.

Safe Sleeping Village on Fulton Mall
The first enacted by the City during the COVID-19 shelter-in-place, the Safe Sleeping Village along the Fulton Mall features a way for unhoused individuals to socially distance in a tent during this time. The area is protected with 24 hour care, contains toilets and hand washing stations. Only those staying in the Village are permitted access and must adhere to conduct requirements.

Masks for D6
We were fortunate to partner with District 6 Supervisor Matt Haney on his "
Masks for D6" project. During this campaign CCCBD Ambassadors distributed over 250 face masks to District stakeholders.

"Middle Ground" Wins Award from SF Design Week
The Exploratorium's "Middle Ground" installation at the Main Library, won in the San Francisco Design Week's Civic and Government category. The installation, which went public in August 2019, featured "opportunities for people of all walks of life to engage with exhibits and each other in order to experience and question their own beliefs, behaviors and assumptions about others."

Paint the Void's Murals Lift Spirits in District and Across City
Temporary murals have popped up on District plywood barriers at Absinthe, Hayes Street Grill and others during shelter-in-place. As part of Paint the Void, a project through Art for Civil Discourse, and started by two SF residents, the murals feature the work of local artists. A photographer of the work notes in an SF Gate article, "We're helping the artists, helping the businesses and building community ties."

SF JAZZ's Fridays at Five
The music plays on, as SF JAZZ's popular Fridays at Five continues during shelter-in-place Phase 3. According to their site, "
It's what we need right now: a new series of weekly pre-recorded concerts that aspire to connect you - to music, to musicians, to the warm and unique feeling of experiencing live music at the SFJAZZ Center."

Forbes Highlights Asian Art Museum's Online Museum Offerings
Forbes featured the Asian Art Museum in its coverage of museums celebrating Asian and Pacific American Heritage (APAH) Month in May, and noted that visitors to the museum can still "visit" from home as part of the museum's #MuseumFromHome with meditative art videos, virtual tours and online events.

Library Provides Reading List & Asian Art Museum Removes Bust
The Library recently shared a thoughtfully curated
list of titles
about racism, #BlackLivesMatter and pervasiveness of white supremacy. See their site for this list and others on a wide variety of topics for all ages.
The Asian Art Museum also announced it's removing a bust from the foyer of one of the founders as his racist and anti-Semitic beliefs have resurfaced. The bust will be moved into storage before reopening to the public.
