Dear clients, colleagues, supporters, and friends,

First, we send our well wishes to everyone impacted by the hurricanes in the south,  and the wild fires out west. We personally know many who are without power because of Irma, but we believe everyone in our network made it through safely.

Thanks to all of you who have kept our studio busy this summer! This week, we are making final preparations for our upcoming work on the west coast. When we return next month, we'll be loading up for our first show in Purchase NY and then the Roycroft Winter Show in early December. We hope to see many of you on one of the coasts!

Thank you for following our work and CJ and Barbara supporting our creative endeavors.

 Inside our travels

In planning our relocation to be closer to our parents, one of the many reasons we chose Oil City, PA was its proximity to the Allegheny National Forest. Access to the fabulous hiking trails, cycling trails, and beautiful rivers, creeks, and waterfalls was important to us. This summer, we celebrated our birthdays with some hiking and taking in the beauty of Nature.

One of the highlights was a visit to the Skywalk at Kinzua Bridge State Park. The railroad bridge was originally built in 1882 by Thomas Kane, president of the New York, Lake Erie and Western Railway. The rail was needed to access coal fields in Elk County PA from the town of Bradford and the most direct route was to cross the Kinzua Valley. When built, the wrought iron bridge, larger than any that had been attempted, was the tallest railroad bridge in existence.

During a 2002 restoration of the bridge, a rare but powerful tornado swept through the Kinzua Valley, destroying much of the bridge, which collapsed to the valley floor. The ruins of the Kinzua Bridge are now part of the PA State Park system, and the remaining standing portion has been turned into the Skywalk. It was pretty impressive, and a little scary walking out over the ruins, and looking straight down at about 225 feet! The vista across the valley is truly amazing, the bulk of the land appearing to be untouched by the hands of man.
