Tell us a little bit about yourself; your name, pronouns, where you are from, where you grew up, and where do you currently work?
My name is Rose Emily Gonzalez, my friends call me Emily. Only my Dad called me Rose (he also celebrated my birthday on a different day) and I prefer it that way. My pronouns are she/her/ella. I have two brothers and one sister. My father was from Vieques, Puerto Rico and my mother is from Cadiz, Spain. I am everything I am because of my parents.
What was your life like growing up in____?
I was born in the Bronx (New York, go Yankees), but we moved to Italy shortly after my brother Ralph was born. I grew up overseas, primarily in Germany (Baumholder, Wiesbaden) and Italy (Vicenza). My dad was in the Army, and we were fortunate to spend most of our childhood in Europe. My mom’s side of the family lives in Spain and so we spent many of our summers in Spain when I was growing up. Some of my best friends are the ones that I met in high school and college in Munich and Wiesbaden.
I received my Bachelors from the University of Maryland, my Master’s degree in Psychology from Loyloa College in Baltimore, and my Ph.D. doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from SUNY Albany. I completed by pre-doctoral training at the Mailman Center for Child Development in Miami and completed two postdoctoral residencies in child maltreatment/forensics before working for a couple of years at JMU teaching and working at the Child Development Center. I moved to Massachusetts in 2001 and had been working in the hospital and schools until about 5 years ago when I moved to Charlottesville. I moved here primarily to be closer to my mother and sister, who live about 3 hours away.
I currently work at
UVA Children’s Hospital
. I am an associate professor of pediatrics and pediatric psychologist. I provide services for the Divisions of Developmental Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. I provide assessment and intervention services for children experiencing a wide range of medical and developmental challenges; I consider myself fortunate to be surrounded by superheroes of all ages all day long. I learn a lot from the children I work with, mostly about the power of the internal voice and the tenacity of the human spirit. Mostly, however, I learn about what it means to be brave and what it really means to not take anything for granted. Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Please join artist and University of Virginia Professor, Federico Cuatlacuatl, on Monday, March 16
th
from 4pm to 8pm at the Washington Monument grounds in D.C.
This project uses traditional Mexican kites brought from Puebla, Mexico and proposes to use our culture and traditions as empowering collective voices to peacefully protest inhumane migration detention centers, the separation of families, and the seven children that have passed away at the hands of the current administration.
We would love for you to join us in this gesture of remembrance, resistance, activism, and love for the hundreds of children and families going through the inhumane immigration policies.
Feel free to bring your own kites, we will have extra kites for people to fly!

"Cecilia Muñoz served for eight years on President Obama’s senior staff, becoming the nation’s longest serving Director of the Domestic Policy Council. Before the White House, she served for twenty years at the National Council of La Raza (now UNIDOS US), and earned a MacArthur Fellowship for her work on immigration and civil rights. She is now the Vice President for Public Interest Technology and Local Initiatives at New America. She lives in Maryland."

JAUNT - Public Relations Director
Jaunt is in search of a full-time Public Relations Director who will be responsible for developing, implementing and/or managing all marketing and public relations efforts.
This person will manage and maintain brand identity including management of rebranding effort and ongoing enforcement of adherence to brand guidelines. They’ll also oversee the design and distribution of traditional and new media advertising. They’ll be expected to meet deadlines and work under pressure independently and as a team member. They ideally must have strong interpersonal skills.
Master’s degree in relevant field preferred with 3 to 5 years’ experience. BA/BS with equivalent, relevant experience may be considered.

Partner for Mental Health - Bilingual System Navigator
The Systems Navigator helps people experiencing mental illness build social support and community inclusion while helping them navigate the local mental health, physical health, human services, and criminal justice systems so they may lead healthier, meaningful, and self-directed lives in their home communities.
As an unbiased and independent broker of services and supports, the Systems Navigator will help clients identify and successfully access community resources necessary to reach self-defined recovery goals, improve their social determinants of health, and live self-directed lives.
Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience working with adults with serious mental illness experiencing complex life challenges.

The Women Initiative - Part Time Bilingual Mental Health Therapist
The Women Initiative are seeking a Part-Time Bilingual Mental Health Therapist (Spanish/English) to provide compassionate clinical care for 10-20 hours a week in their Bienestar Program for Latina women. Successful candidates will have a minimum of one year of experience as a master’s-level counselor or social worker and be team-oriented with a strengths-based approach to services. They are seeking a candidate who is passionate about working with women of all backgrounds and has a demonstrated interest in multicultural issues with an emphasis on those affecting the Latino community.
The Women’s Initiative is committed to building a diverse workforce and encourages candidates from underrepresented backgrounds to apply. EOE. Master’s degree in Counseling or Social Work required. Licensed or license-eligible required.
