Join Zlatko Theodorovic, Director of Budget Services, Administration Division, Judicial Council of California, for a discussion of the judicial branch budget. He will cover a primer on the branch budget and discuss the Governor’s Budget released on January 10, 2024, the budget process, and goals. Attendees will leave with a thorough understanding of all the key components comprising the judicial branch budget.

• Tuesday, January 30, 12:15-1:15PM: Judicial Independence and Elections REGISTER HERE (Will be recorded.) The March 2024 primaries bring some electoral challenges to judicial officers who are incumbents and many questions. What can we say and do if we are challenged for our seat? What can we say and do to support a colleague who has been challenged? Where can we go for information and advice? Fortunately, CJA has multiple committees working to support bench officers who have been challenged or who want to support a colleague.  For the first time by webinar, this important session brings together an outstanding panel of chairpersons for CJA’s various committees that are leading in this area. Bring your questions and hear from Judges Todd Bottke and Jim Mize who chair the Response to Unfair Criticism Committee, Judge James Bertoli who chairs the Elections Committee, Judge Michael Groch who chairs JETPAC, Judge David Rosenberg and Heather Rosing who chair the Judicial Fairness Coalition. Judge Paul Bacigalupo will lead off the discussion with an update about contested elections against incumbents in the state and Judge Erica Yew will moderate. The program will be recorded for those who cannot attend and CJA is launching a webpage on its site dedicated to resources and materials about judicial elections. Please join us.
