The Story of Your Child’s Creation

In May, CJDS performed Jungle Book Kids, a 30 minute adaptation of Disney’s “The Jungle Book.” There was to be one performance on Sunday afternoon, and the final dress rehearsal took place after school on the Friday before.

All of the students in the performance excitedly ran around after school getting their costumes on and the performance ready. A kindergartener started crying. It seemed that he was struck by stage fright. He could not go with his cast mates to get ready.

Finally, a 4th grader, came over and pulled him aside. “You’re going to be ok,” she said “we are going to help you.” The boy stopped crying. She put her arm around him and began to lead him to the stage, and another kindergartener came over and took his hand. They walked off to the rehearsal.

There are many things that are special about CJDS. In particular, I believe that we truly impart to our students a sense of community that crosses beyond grade level boundaries. We teach and model this practice through the buddy program that meets every Friday before Kabbalat Shabbat. But our students take it to the next level on the playground, in the cafeteria and out in the community. Our older kids help our younger kids, and our younger kids learn from that how to help each other.

As we launch the 2019-2020 school year, I hope that every child can feel the empowerment of this 4th grader and the love of this Kindergartener. It’s going to be a great year.
This year, the Ma Koreh will be a monthly publication highlighting the most exciting news of the month from CJDS. Parents will continue to get weekly announcements. If you're looking for photos or more about our day-to-day activities, follow us on Social Media.

Community Milestones

In our community, at every point, our families are perpetually entering new stages in their lives. In keeping with the tradition of living Jewishly, CJDS acknowledges, honors, and celebrates these moments: Births, B’nei Mitzvah, graduations, marriages, and in moments of illness, healing and loss.

Mi Sh'Berach

When a member of the CJDS family is ill or in need of healing, the entire community lends its support and its prayers for a full and complete recovery.

We wish our dear CJDS friend and Lunch Coordinator, Paul Zeigler, a speedy recovery.
May Their Memory be a Blessing

We extend our condolences to the entire Leveton/Zeigler family on the loss of Allen Leveton, father of CJDS Alumni parent and CJDS Board member Sara (Chris) Zeigler. Allen is the late husband of Elsa Leveton, and grandfather to Rose (2016) & Gabriel (2019) Zeigler. The Funeral was held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 in Toledo. You may read more about Allen's life here.
Hakarat Hatov
