The CKAR Adopt a Family Program allows a partnership with our neighborhood businesses where they can become involved and make a significant difference in the lives of local residents.  The partnership also allows residents to support and promote our local businesses knowing that they are connected and, provide valuable goods and services.  In all, the partnership helps to instill a sense of community pride and, enables each one to make a valuable contribution and investment to the community!

Businesses may choose the opportunity to continue to foster their support of these families or others throughout the year. Their support via contributions of time through mentoring and tutoring, and not only donation are welcome. If your business is interested in further partnership with CKAR in helping these families now or in the future, please contact CKAR at 240-608-CKAR (2527)  or via email at aknott@ckarcdc.org.
Sign Up to Serve/Register Your Project with CKAR-Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, MLK Day-January 19th

What is the MLK Day of Service?

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"

Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities. The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President's national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems.

This year CKAR is coordinating volunteers to serve area agencies, churches, PTAs, HOAs, etc...that have registered their community project. We expect to  have a wonderful crew of individual, organizational and family groups of volunteers to help our community on this day to honor the example and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

If you are interested in Volunteering or registering your project, please contact Amanda Knott via email Here. You may  also

Register to Volunteer via Nationalserviceday.gov . Once you arrive at the website, enter the 20737 zipcode in the "Find a Volunteer Opportunity" search bar on the right side of the page. Final Meeting for Riverdale "Sustainable Community" Designation

In the final work group meeting to establish Riverdale as a "Sustainable Community" on December 11th, community members came up with potential solutions to the community weaknesses previously identified in the first meeting in November. This application will be completed and finally submitted in February with the support of the of the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission (MNCPPC). CKAR is very grateful for the MNCPPC team's acknowledgement of our community's eligibility to apply for this designation and for their guidance through the application process, which gave the community a platform to voice their ideas and concerns, perspectives and input for change in their community. For more information about the benefits of the "Sustainable Communities" Designation, please Click Here!
