Afro-Brazilian Arts And Activism: A Lecture Series

The Center for Latin American Studies is excited to announce "Afro-Brazilian Arts and Activism: A Lecture Series"! This virtual series will take place throughout the Spring 2021 semester. You can look forward to a variety of guest speakers, with presentations on the topic of Afro-Brazilian activism. All lectures will be free and open to the public!

Our first lecture of the series was presented by researcher, director, performer, and activist, Carla Melo (University of Toronto), on Friday, January 22. She presented her talk on "Cartographies of Racism: Black Artivism and 'Re-existence' in Brazil".

The second lecture will be "The Language of Antiracism" by Antonio José Bacelar da Silva (University of Arizona). Join us this Friday, January 29 from 11:10-12:30 PM!

La Pocha Nostra Virtual Workshop

The Pocha Nostra Pedagogical Workshop is a four-hour guided workshop introducing participants to the pedagogical foundations of LPN's interdisciplinary performance practice: the body as a site for creation, reinvention, memory, activism, and ritual. This workshop will take place on February 13.

Faculty, graduate students, and staff interested in activism, performance, and embodied pedagogies are encouraged to apply for a limited spot! Applications are due Monday, February 1.
