Come celebrate Indigenous People's Day!

What: The K'acha Willaykuna Collaboration and Indigenous Ohio have been invited by MMI (Migration Mobility and Immobility DT) to launch Moving Subjects Week with presentations on Indigenous Arts and Humanities. In addition to our student curators showcasing the Pop Up Panels for the Andean and Amazonian Indigenous Art Collection and demonstrating student-developed interactive features, Elvia Andia and her students will have a Quechua information table. There will be a small reception with finger food and drinks.

From now until October 31, 2019, The Box in the Wexner Center for the Arts will be screening a video by the Indigenous collective New Red Order called "Culture Capture: Terminal Addition" (2019, 7 mins.). This video will be part of the discussion on decolonization, decoloniality, and settler colonialism in the next This Decoloniality reading group session on October 24, 2019. Admission is free and open to the public.

On Monday, October 21, 2019, CLAS Visiting Scholar, Charles Dolph, will be presenting a lecture entitled "Ambiguities of the Landlord State in Argentina". This talk explores the material and symbolic ambiguities of this would-be landlord state. As its promises of democracy and inclusion in the political and economic life of the nation gave way to conflicts over the hoarding of social wealth, images of distressed social bodies revealed conflicting histories and imaginaries of Argentina's national trajectory.

The Columbus Council on World Affairs is seeking volunteers who work in a career with global components (i.e., working abroad, working with foreign companies and organizations, working on a daily basis with people from other cultures, working with foreign languages, working with international students, etc.). You will be asked to talk with students about your background, skills, experiences, and advice for success in such a role. The event is setup in a speed-networking style and is meant to be an informational session where students gain a better understanding of the types of careers that exist with global components, the skills that are needed to be successful, the pathways that one can take to enter such a field, etc.

On October 18, 2019, the Department of Anthropology and the Latina/o Study Program present "Hunger Games: The politics of violence, victimhood and deservingness among Central American and Mexican (Im)Migrants", a lecture by Dr. Wendy Vogt, Associate Professor of Anthropology from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. The lecture will be held in 4012 Smith Laboratory from 10:30-11:30 a.m., followed by a reception in 4180 Smith Laboratory.

The 2020 Global Studies Symposium on National Research Center, Community College and Minority-Serving Institution Collaboration will be held on Jan. 9-10, 2020 at Florida International University. The dialogue-driven symposium will feature presentations to stimulate discussion, cultivate collaboration, and develop new programming partnerships related to, but not limited to:

• Effective Approaches to Internationalizing Curricula
• Building Global Studies Programs
• Leveraging Technology to Create Unique International Learning Opportunities

Submission deadline is October 28, 2019!

The Global May Brazil Education Abroad program is a month long experience for May 2020 that offers students the opportunity to explore the two cities of Salvador and Rio de Janeiro. Undergraduates of all majors are invited to apply and should contact Lucia Costigan (costigan.2) or Louise Yahiaoui (yahiaoui.2) for further information regarding the program and possible grants and scholarships.
