Afro-descendants and Legal Rights in Argentina: Intersectional Activism

April 7, 2021 (6-8pm), join us for a conversation with Black legal scholar activists to discuss the challenges African and Afro-descendants face in Argentina, the famed “European” or white nation of Latin America. After more than 120 years of erasure, a category for Afro-descendants appeared in the Argentine Census in 2010. In spite of this and other important steps of recognition for social inclusion, these individuals continue to face various forms of racialized violence and discrimination on a daily basis. Our panelists will provide insight into the legal fight against racism in the Argentine landscape. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Judith Anderson.

Abya Yala Student Organization Announces New Series

The Abya Yala Student Organization has announced that they will be hosting two new series in the upcoming months of 2021. The first is Conversations on a Changing Planet and Latin America, a talk series covering a variety of topics from borders to climate change to feminism, etc. The second is their new and improved podcast, Améfrica Landina. Both series will be FREE and open to the public!

24th Latin American Social and Public Policy (LASPP) Conference

The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) at the University of Pittsburgh welcomes faculty and students to the 24th Latin American Social and Public Policy (LASPP) Conference on March 25th, 26th, and 27th, 2021. At the conference, researchers can present scholarly work related to social and public policy in Latin America.

2021 SACNAS Keynote Address

The SACNAS Chapter at Ohio State and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and are pleased to invite you to their virtual SACNAS Keynote Event on Thursday, March 25 starting at 4:00 pm EST. The Keynote Address will be given by Dr. Ximena Cid, who is the Chair of the Department of Physics at California State University-Dominguez Hills. The Keynote Address will be held from 4:00 - 5:00 pm with a networking event to follow at 5:15 - 6:15 pm. Both events are open to all, and links will be sent to all registrants prior to the event.
