Ciclo de Conversaciones: Memoria y Salud Andino-Amazónica

En el marco de las actividades estratégicas co-organizadas entre el Foro Permanente de Estudios, Investigación y Saberes Transdisciplinarios Ancestrales; el Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos de la Universidad Estatal de Ohio y la Organización Estudiantil Abya Yala de la Universidad Estatal de Ohio celebraremos el primer Ciclo de Conversaciones en "Memoria y Salud Andino Amazónica", un viaje compuesto por una serie de exposiciones y reflexiones, en donde planteamos reescribir y recuperar la historia de nuestros antepasados desde la medicina tradicional y las plantas ancestrales. El evento será realizado en la herramienta digital ZOOM 18 de julio.

Ohio State graduate students, Guillermo Bervejillo and Palo Pinillos Chávez, presented their Tinker Talks that were originally scheduled for March.

Coffee Hours are designed to continue offering ways to network and engage with each other on topics and themes related to Latin America. Discussions will take place on Zoom every Thursday from 1:30 - 2:30 PM. Please suggest new themes and/or lead future discussions based on your interests (music, cooking demonstrations, favorite books, review of journal articles, etc.). Take Action to Reverse ICE's Decision on International Students

As you may have heard, on July 6, ICE issued a decision that would threaten the ability of international students to stay in the United States if their universities have shifted to online instruction in the Fall. Many colleges and universities have already moved their entire curricula online this Fall in order to protect the health of campus communities during the COVID-19 crisis. Under the new decision, these students "may face immigration consequences including, but not limited to, the initiation of removal proceedings." Urge ICE to reverse this decision and urge your Members of Congress to denounce ICE's decision and pressure ICE to reverse it.

Free Streaming of Eva Luna

Isabel Allende's novel is re-imagined for the stage by OBIE-winning playwright Caridad Svich. This play tells the coming-of-age story of Eva Luna, a woman born into poverty who rises up through the world to find her voice as a storyteller and a reflector of history. Enchanting, comical, and sly, Eva Luna follows the character's journey from childhood to adulthood, and along the way, allows us to meet an array of characters that will change the course of Eva's life forever.

You will be able to stream this content through July 15th. Presented in Spanish.

CLAS publishes its first Annual Report, "CLAS of 2019-20"

The Center for Latin American Studies is excited to announce our very first Annual Report publication, CLAS of 2019-20. This electronic publication wraps up the 2019-2020 academic year, featuring academic and outreach programming, updates on leadership transitions, and faculty and student news.

What's inside:

Center News: CLAS Director, Dr. Terrell Morgan, retires after nearly five years of leading the center. Read about his successful leadership and all he has accomplished at Ohio State. (Page 4)

Academic Programming: We have listed CLAS' 26 lectures, conferences, and events held on campus this past year, and feature articles on Día de los Muertos, Sebastián Calfuqueo Aliste's residency, and the 4th Annual Quechua Alliance Meeting. (Pages 7-9)

Outreach: We have listed CLAS' 18 programs offered to teachers, business leaders, students, and community members, featuring pieces on Summer Seminars Abroad for Spanish Teachers (SSAST), CCWA Luncheon on Climate Change, and Virtual Coffee Hours. (Pages 10-12)
