Andean & Amazonian Indigenous Art & Cultural Artifacts Collection Open House

The curators of the Andean and Amazonian Indigenous Art and Cultural Artifacts Collection invite you to stop by their open house on Tuesday, October 5th from 1pm-6pm in Hagerty Hall 255 and the Hagerty Hall Courtyard.

OSU instructors are welcome to bring their classes for a tour of the exhibit, but please contact Faculty Curator Michelle Wibbelsman (wibbelsman.1@osu.edu) to coordinate group visits.

Group Transport to Festival Latino

CLAS is teaming up with Global Engagement to coordinate transportation for OSU students to attend Festival Latino.

This year's Festival Latino will be held Sat., Sept. 18 at Columbus Commons and consists of a free concert (5pm-10pm) of diverse Latin music. Food trucks will be available on-site.

Our group will meet at the Ohio Union at 3:15pm and take COTA buses (free with BuckID) downtown to the festival. We will hold a brief group cultural activity before the concert and return to the Ohio Union together afterwards.

CFP: Trans and Intersex Experiences and Realities in Spanish-speaking Contexts

This roundtable seeks to dialogue about contemporary cultural dynamics around trans and intersex people’s experiences and rights, including both Gender Identity Laws and cultural products. Presentations about graphic novels, video games, film, and television are encouraged, as well as discussions about the specific laws.

Research Experience in Ecuador for OSU Students

Prof. Barbara Piperata of OSU's Department of Anthropology is seeking three OSU students (1 graduate and 2 undergraduate) to participate in a research opportunity in Ecuador, through the NSF funded International Research Experience for Students (IRES) program.

Prof. Piperata invites applications from high-performing students with strong interest in social science, specifically the ways water insecurity affects human health and well-bein. Strong Spanish speaking skills are required, as students will conduct original field research in rural communities.

Under the U.S. Department of Education's Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies program, CLAS offers summer and academic year fellowships for graduate and undergraduate students who need advanced training in language and area studies.
The next application window for FLAS fellowships will open in early November '21, with a February '22 deadline. Stay tuned!

Roberto Reis Book Prize 2020-21

The Roberto Reis BRASA Book Prize recognizes the best monographs in Brazilian Studies published in English that contribute significantly to promoting an understanding of Brazil. The book must be a monograph published between January 2020 and December 2021. The deadline for submissions for this award cycle is December 31, 2021.
