Looking Ahead: Congregational Council Initiatives for New Program Year
At it s organizational meeting on June 23 Council members welcomed newly elected members Deborah Bianco and Martha  Cronin as well as Hannele Saramo-Raja, re-elected to a second term. Newly elected officers are Celeste Larson, president; David Ripp; vice president; Amy Lousararian, secretary; and Edith Lohr, treasurer.
Members reviewed a draft proposal to establish a Social Justice Committee to be made up of 3-5 members who would coordinate activities and recruit people for projects. The Council is also committed to reconstituting an Evangelism Committee in the near future.

The COVID-19 Working Group appointed in late May to advise t he C ouncil on guide lines for church usage during the coronavirus closure submitted minutes of its initial four meetings. It approved the use of the parking lot of the church buildi ng for the annual gathering of quilts for shipment to Lutheran World Relief later this summer or early fall and the use of the church grounds for the weekly meeting of one of the 12-Step groups that met at CLC prior to the mandated closure of the building. Consideration of outdoor worship services was referred to the Worship, Music, and Visual Arts Committee for further guidance.

We Pray

Song leader and composer, Nick Page led a gospel style service last fall at CLC featuring "We Pray" as part of the Intercessory Prayer that morning. Nick has recreated "We Pray" for us in a video recording featuring members of the CLC Choir for us to use this coming Sunday, July 5 as the Intercessory Prayer. His composition incorporates the African-American spiritual "There is a balm in Gilead" and Nick's own song, "Feel the love around you." Nick leads from the piano and is joined in some solo and duet singing by Gail Weston-Roberts. Thanks to Nick, Gail, Kim Petot, Celeste Larson, Scott Carlson, Hilding Hedberg, John Whitlock, Jeff Kinney and Bob Weaver for creating "We Pray."

Book Group
Once again, you are invited to select a book from your own library--this time one that is light-hearted, perhaps a beach novel, or a favorite book of humor to share.
Readers will gather virtually on Monday, July 27 at 7:30 pm to review their choices. Contact Marianne Swenson if you want to attend:   mswenson10@comcast.net .
Call to Action
Cathy Gallagher and volunteers will meet at the church on Friday, July 3 to do some weeding around the property. If you plan to help, bring gloves and tools. Work begins at 8:00 am. In Cathy's inimitable words, "Come when you can; leave when you must."

W M VA (Worship, Music, and Visual Arts) has posted an online surve y to assess your responses to our Sunday morning Zoom worship servic es. The link posted in the July/Augu st Reporter doesn't work  so it was reposted in a CLC Everyon e email. If more than one member of your family wants an opportunity to fill out the survey use the link below:

Sing For Joy
Enhance your understanding of the weekly scripture readings by listening to Sing For Joy  from St. Olaf College.  The Sing For Joy radio program, produced by St. Olaf College , has a simple mission: to explore the weekly themes of Christian worship by providing the best in sacred choral music and thoughtful commentary. The musical performances eloquently "do the talking," while the concise remarks from host Pastor Bruce Benson illuminate the meaning of the texts.
